So I started scratching...

So I started scratching…

…a few months ago and think i am starting to get the hang of it.

Given…its just a bit of cutting to a track playing…but I only been at it for a short time.

I am starting to learn the moves individually and am practising with my other hand too.

Check it out!

Using Traktor Timecodes and Deckadance at the mo (TSP is on backorder for 2 more weeks) with a VCI-100 as a midi mixer.

Fixed!

Man thats some good cuts there, but your timing is just a tad off, but other than that its good mate, very good.

yeah…i was not trying to keep with the tracks flow at all…missed all the breaks in the track and shit as I was not concentrating on that aspect…was just cutting like a mofo!

thanks bro!

Once I got my technique a bit tighter…I will work on finding a few tracks that work…and make a lil routine…or something…

LOL

Right on, homeboy.

Right on.

HEHEHE…thanks Patch!

Just a pointer… I know you’re new to scratching but try practice more scribble type moves with your left hand. You seem to be going just backwards and forwards with single motions. youtube scribble scratching if you don’t know what it is. Try learning stabs, which is opening the crossfader on just the forward movement on the vinyl. Once you got that down you can progress to double-timing the backwards and forward movement with your left hand. I’m only saying all this because it sounds a lot more impressive to have more vinyl-hand techniques as well as crossfader-hand techniques.

Hey cheers Dodge. Yeah…i can scribble and stab but have not got it down 100s yet. Can crab too…but again…not consistantly. I used to drum back in the day…so i can use my hands independantly. However…i can only cut and shit with my one hand…so only as you saw in the vid. Practicing my other side too. I am playing on the alternative floor at a party in 3 weeks. First time that i will ever play the 2nd floor. But people seem interested in hearing me jam other styles…gonna be fun. Will do a bit of a scratch…just to show off a lil hehe.

What is the cut in time like on the x-fader on the VCI? There are pretty easy mods you can do to x-faders to minimise the cut-in time. The shorter the cut in time, the tighter your cuts will be.

OMG, this whole time I thought you were a girl!!! Just kidding!!! Sounds a whole hell of a lot better than my pitiful attempts at scratching.

Haha…you not the first one to think i was a girl…due to my nick. However…i would be one crass women ey!? Yeah…the cut needs to be smaller. I can crab…but its an effort. I did the credit card mod on my DJM before i got my VCI. Worked really well. My plan originally was to put a scratch fader into my VCI…the Pro X Fade…but have not gotten there yet. But cheers…good advice. It would aid in my learning curve. Its cool man…i go all zombie…in my zone…hahaha

yo dude, nice cuts. keep it up.

How have you got the turntables set up with the vci? What your set-up there?

I didn’t really think you were girl. I was just giving you a hard time.

Puto… i have an audio 4 thats under the MacBook as well as a USB Hub. Using Traktor TCs and Deckadance at the Mo. TSP is on back order. Upgraded last week but waiting on my serial. Using the VCI as a midi mixer and Timecodes. I tested with TSP demo…and its tighter than Deckadance for sure.

yo dude, so whats your scratchin like on the vci 100 with the jog wheels???

I’ve only had my vci-100 for a few months and a cant get a chirp going at all. I aint sure weather its just the fact that the jog wheels are tiny or if its the fader, I cant really get clean cuts with the vci-100 fader.

Is there any other scratch dj’s on here using the vci-100???

Setup question

hey man, glad i came across your page…i like the set up.
how exactly did you set up your tt with your vci? im new to this and pretty confused as to how ill be able to use my crossfader on my vci with a turntable (str8-60) while the vci is already playing music. i have traktor but it confuses the hell out of me.

i am in the same boat.
its all about getting the sensitivity and acceleration on the jog wheels set up right i think. the latency does not help, i’m still experimenting with the settings on the midi mapping.
Cheers sarasin for putting this up gave me some more hints on getting better.
did you ever find someone to make you a logo?

Hey all!

wow…cheers for the interest!

I am a total beginner in terms of scratching!!

Basically…Deckadance is easy to setup for scratching with the VCI.

All you need to do it tell Deckadance that you using a VCI (it picks it up automatically…just need to enable it)

Then I have the TT’s going into my Audio 4 inputs.

Then in Deckadance…I click on the Relative button…start the TC vinyl up so its running…then click on LEARN.

It then connects my audio to the TC.

piss!

AND…you scratching!

It Traktor its even easier. You just click on the A of your A deck and choose Timecode.

BOOM!

I have only used Traktor Scratch in demo mode…STILL waiting for my serial to arrive.

I have got more skills that was shown on that lil vid. I will record a new one soon…without me missing breaks and stuff!

@Herb…Cuttaboi said he could help me…but that he was lank busy…so nothing yets bro.

You offering?

I can cut in a similar way with the Jog wheels…but its not nice or fun.

They just to small. You can do sooo much more with the TC vinyl or real vinyl.

And to tell you the truth…i don;t want to scratch on the Jog wheels…it looks NAFF and I have not gotten the settings right for it just yet either.

I rather spend the time with the TC’s.

I will be doing some cutting at my gig on the 24th.

First time I am playing Electro out!!!

gl sara! post some videos latter
