So today, was the most embarrassing day of my life
Last night I got an email saying a club wasn’t interested in having me DJ. The reason, because I don’t have video dj capabilities. Really? I went to the club tonight and the crowd was roughly, well, 8 people. I was insulted that such an amazing new club , two cdj 1000’s and a djm 900, two technics m5g’s , mbp, incredible sound, and very well designed interior wouldnt let me play, even though they stated “I had the best mix they had had audition” simply because I don’t vj…for real? what is this coming to? I could buy a version of VDJ but really? vj’ing is that large?
Hmm..first I’ve ever heard of something like this.
Frankly, that’s a separate thing entirely which seems like if a DJ can do it, right on, and if not - then get a dedicated VJ who is as passionate and knowledgeable about it as a DJ is with his mixing and track selection.
Should be the most embarrassing day in the club owner’s life..
A video show is really THAT big of a deal for them? And if so, they shouldn’t be cheapskates and hire a regular DJ and one that is responsible for the video stuff.
@BradCee - I do jest, but having never met a hardcore VJ fanatic, I don’t know.
I’m guessing their brand spanking new club has brand spanking new video screens and lights, and they’ve lost sight of the fact that it’s all about the music, baby!
unfortunately i’ve had the same problem. most bars around here want a dj that can spin the music video along with it. its a huge bummer. i’ve even thought about getting modul8 but my time is limited so i’m not entirely sure if i can learn it.
Well, nice surprise to wake up this morning to see I have posted a thread. lol. I guess I was pretty drunk after that whole thing, needless to say, it’s more embarrassing that I see I posted this then the actual denial ahaha. But yeah, bummer, guess it’s more important to have video with shitty music than it is to have good music and people at a club…
man, just get AVmixer or someother video mixing program. IF you want to dj somewhere, its not going to hurt you to add videos to your set. heck, check out some vj site and make a 2 hr visual dvd at home, pop it in there dvd player and let it play. If they want a vdj to play the music videos of the tracks, sounds like serato & sl-video is the route you must take.
Look Im a dj. I prefer to play on Traktor 3 (not PRO), but at times i have to play on Serato, sometimes on Vinyl, and other times on CDJ. You have to be versitle in this game.
8 people at a club, yeah that sucks, but all its going to need is a good promoter, and the place will be jumping. Try to get the resident spot and go from there. If it doesnt work out. Atleast you know you gave it your all
I’d be tempted to get a second laptop, and some anime or something that kind of goes. Aeon Flux, Cities of Gold, Smurfs, whatever. Top and tail the opening and closing credits, and run that. Cartoons always goes with music, beatmatched or no…
