Software Comparison

I would like to see a real software comparison review. Basically one that is not bias and really puts all the software options available to the test with machines capable of running those applications.

it would be interesting, once you get past the features a lot of it comes down to preference…

Ill cover deckadance :slight_smile:

Deckadance:

  • Constant development (though only 1 guy)
  • You buy it once, and get v1.5, v2.0, v3.0 and so on lifetime updates
  • Can be used as VST instrument
  • Pretty good beat detection
  • BPM tracking detection fairly accurate
  • The Relooper is a nice touch
  • Multiple vinyl timecode support
  • Does not have bpm ranges, only minimum bpm detection threshold
  • Skinning does not allow for rearrangement of the mixer
    – Does not have full midi remapping support
  • CPU use is not as optimised as it could be
    – Does not have a user editable beat grid
    – (VCI-100) To play a cue you need to hit the button twice - once to stop the audio and another to play the cue point. Which leaves a nasty gap in the audio. eww
  • Keylock is not accurate (though better than Traktors) - But then.. What program has got a nice keylock?

For me its something to look forward to for future developments but for the moment i have stopped using it. I have marked " – " for the ones i would most like to see cleaned up before i give Deckadance another shot.

If you can, use all the different kinds of software you can and explore the possibilities with them before you decide which you will stick with :sunglasses: Hope this helps.

Hopefully people can help cover other software alternatives they are familiar with :disappointed:

I agree, that would be very useful. A dj software shoot out. Like the xponnent VS. traktor one we did.

it would also be great to have a comparison of the various software out there for producing and remixing!

I think any such review should be broken down to purpose and budget… to me there is no point comparing a cheap app to a protools setup… but Reason and Ableton are both quite capable as far as I am concerned so who knows…

Def should have DJ SW, Production SW and whatever falls in between.

I tried Traktor, Deckadance, and Virtual DJ and liked VDJ because you can VJ with it and can’t in the others.
