Someone needs to start our Wiki Page!
Controllerism needs a wikipedia entry!
we’re all geeks, that page would be slam PACKED with great info for people who might have heard the phrase in passing.

Hear hear!
Starting the wiki is not the problem, getting all the information there is.
Who has a general description of Controllerism? ![]()
There was one attempt, it never got the green light by wikipedia though.
Remember on wikipedia you cant use blog’s as a reference - so i recommend using controllerism.com, remix magazine as references and any interveiws with moldover or ean as references.
Controllerism borrows its name from turntablism. These terms are essentially the same idea, but they revolve around different instruments. DJs who emphasize performance and approach their tools as musical instruments needed a way to differentiate themselves from DJs who just play records.
Controllerism is the art of manipulating sounds and creating music live, using computer controllers and software.
This is Moldovers definition of Controllerism. We could link to many articles like those and use the above as a description. (If moldover would be OK with “Ripping” his text.
I could not put it more clear than that…
it’s wikipedia, we can rip anyone’s txt that we want! haha
yeah i’d say we use remix mag, controllerism.com and we do things like cite youtube videos and such.
a lot of this will probably be citing moldover’s work at first.
Also, I’d want to add that DJs across all genres use controllerism. from emulating scratching, to doing hyper complex song building in genres from hip hop to techno.
we could even cite controllerists out there. from the extreme: Moldover, Materia Prima, Ean Golde. To the slimmed down. Sander Kleinenberg, Sven Vath, Chris Leibing, Carl Cox, richie “traktor” hawtin.
I mean, i consider all of the following controllerism.
btw…i’m kinda annoyed that wikipedia has “computer dj” and not “digital dj” computer dj seems so lame…
Here, Here for the controllerism wiki! I would start it but that’s against the rules ![]()
I think it’s only against the rules if you’re making your own wiki page.
You’re considered an authority on controllerism, so you’d actually be the ideal candidate to start the wiki!
Yeah you are allowed to link to your own reference material ![]()
Also, forum posts are fair game.
Oooh i didnt know that !!!
Exhibit A:
how many “We need to make a wiki” posts is it going to take till one is made? heh

on the above description wouldn’t devices be a more accurate description of instruments ? or we can put wider variety of tools.
we can also add
As technology advances so do techniques of any field.
It has evolved from the classic setup of only turntables and a mixer. To a modern day music combination composer which blends dozens of styles in an effort to entice and educate the crowd.
Not having the traditional restrictions of a Turntable Dj Or CD Dj the Controlism DJ has a lot more tools to his disposal and has the capability to play dozens of tracks on demand predefined or on the fly.
First sign of controlerism dates back as far as 1970s when a simple guitar effects pedal would be used to create on the same track a variety of effects like flanger, reverb, echo and autopan this then was incorporated on nearly 90% of the Mixers produced in the 80s.
I have the wiki page up ready for Submit but im just a new guy around here so don’t wanna step on no toes ![]()
I feel we should start it and everyone start contributing. My last 2 days since i registered here i have read so much great material on this it would be a shame not to include some of it on wiki
No because they are instruments, its just that lots of people somehow rufuse to see these devices as instruments when infact they are.
Music A device for playing or producing music: a keyboard instrument.
The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition
Music any of various devices that can be played to produce musical sounds
Collins Essential English Dictionary
Our gear is most definantly accuratly described as being instruments.
You could allways post what you want to write here and we can provide feedback - or just post it up on the wiki and we can move this discussion to the wiki discussion page ![]()
Its wikipedia after all everyone is free to contribute i am not fussed either way you wish to go.
cool it is what it is then ![]()
Should we expand on the description

Maybe take a unofficial vote and submit ? it can always be changed at a later date.
It should be noted that controllerists arnt just djs, i would consider someone using live syth and single hits to also be a controllerist.

seems a bit of a flight of fancy for a wiki page. remember this isn’t advertisement this is education. When someone goes up to you at the club and says “hey man, great set, what do you call yourself? i mean you were almost djing but not!”
you say “controllerist”
then invebitably they ask. “what’s that”
so what do you tell them?
Thats what needs to be in the wiki.
“what is controllerism”
you can also have
“history”
“origins of the word”
“notable controllerists”
