Songs that changed EDM (for you)

Songs that changed EDM (for you)

Everyone has those songs that completely changed how they think about everything. I personally have a huge array of songs that all mean something different to me, and have influenced not only my taste in music, but the music that I make.

As terrible as it is to admit this, when it came out when I was 10 or 11, Eiffel 65’s “Blue” helped me not only figure out that I enjoyed electronic/dance music, and there’s no shame in admitting that I still listen to the song.

It wasn’t until about 6 years later, though, that I really got into EDM. And that defining moment is best marked by Cosmic Gate’s “Exploration of Space.”

I know you guys have songs that changed your perception of music… let’s see 'em!

I have two Honey Dipped Hydrogen Bombs

and

the song that really hit home for me. I had listened to electronic music for about 2-3 years already, but this one totally got me.

God i’m old.

pulser - cloudwalking (original mix)

sarah whatmore - automatic (stella brown vocal mix)

How about the first time you heard the lyric “The Brothers’ Gonna Work It Out…” or "Everything Everything Everything Everything… "
To far back for ya’ll maybe :stuck_out_tongue:

 the one tune that converted me to the side of love & light was "Dark & Long - Dark Train " by Underworld. My first tentative steps into the underworld back in the day. Or “Earth - Gaia” by the Orb.

haha me too man…

without a doubt this tune did it for me. I was about 13/14 years old and straight up into hip hop, NWA, Puplic Enemy etc then heard this after trying smoking loads…

Massive

A year or two later I remember this completely blew my mind

+1.

I was 12/13 when these came out. I started carrying around cardboard and a boom box soon after.

This one introduced my ears to the drum machine.

This one made me realize it didn’t have to have lyrics.

two tracks I have on 12"

For me also it was things like this little number that made me start thinking hip-hop and edm were kind of linked…

Got me from hip-hop into “dance” music

EDIT: The full 12" mix (which i have 2 copies of on vinyl) is the real nuts!

always been into edm since forever, think it’s because my dad listened to it, so grew up with all the ‘old skool’ stuff being played at home.

charly by prodigy is first track to ever stick in my head, probally because i loved the advert, think i was like 5 or 6?

I played that Robin S. mix last week at a house party and the people weren’t feeling it, which is a shame because I love it

Really?

I thought for most people, “Show Me Love” was a timeless dance/house track?! I’m 98% sure if I dropped that song, people would dig it!

‘Club Organ’ anyone?

The first song i remember to burn playing …

I was a Senior in High School when I picked up Renaissance 2- The mix collection randomly off the shelf at a music store I worked at. I had gotten into prodigy and the chemical brothers a little before that but this album pretty much changed my life.

Moved off to college the next year 96’ and got to spend more than a few nights and mornings with Sasha and John Digweed at my favorite club of all time- “Simon’s” in Gainesville Florida.

This song makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time I hear it.

I was (and still am) a huge Radiohead fan, so the likes of the album Kid A were my first introduction to a more electronic sound…
Then I ran into Slam by Pendulum in my final year of high school, ended up getting Hold Your Colour and have been hooked on Drum ‘N’ Bass since, pity about Pendulum’s more recent work though.

Royksopp’s Melody AM started my passion for Electronic music:
