Soon-to-be S4 owner!

New S4 Owner!

New to the forum, and celebrated a birthday over the weekend. My wife’s gift to me: A brand new, shiny…

…PHOTO of a Traktor S4.

On backorder. Total bummer. Now I’m like a kid trying to sleep on Christmas eve.

This will be my first step into the violent ocean that is DJing…I’ve made beats for a long time, and now I’m ready to take the next step.

Wish me luck! I’ll use this thread as a central report hub for posting my experiences. Any tips, suggestions, or critiques are appreciated along the way!

Gu’ Luck G! Also, you have a wise wife! :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome aboard

So I’m saving my pennies for a Macbook Pro. The 13" version doesn’t have an i5 or i7 processor. Are the Core2Duo processors sufficient for Traktor S4? Or should I just hold out for the 15" version with an i5 or i7 processor?

Good God yes. i have a mid 2009 13" MBP and it can run TSP and ableton at the same time without problems.

Welcome aboard buddy! In meantime I suggest you to rip and manage your music library… that’s the boring thing to do… but so much time consuming at the same time…

If you have plenty MP3 “I” suggest you run all of them to MP3Val software ( http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/ ) , this small utility test them (may even fix some problems) So it may avoid some software crash while playing a “bad” encoded mp3.

To manage your music collection, I suggest MediaMonkey ( http://www.mediamonkey.com/http://www.mediamonkey.com/ ). You can do a lot with the free version.

This should be enough to keep yourself busy in meantime

PS: the above software run on PC though… I heard MediaMonkey are going to make a MAC version…

same here, runs like a charm

welcome friend…

lol cheers

When did you place your order? My wife placed the order for mine On 12/31, I think (she had a coupon for $100 off a $500+ purchase, w00t!).

I’ve got all of my music on a WD passport, portable 500gb hard drive. A lot of UK garage, some dubstep, and my own stuff that I’ve done. No one appreciates any of those genres in the southeastern US, so I’ll likely amass a collection of top 40 stuff as well to make mainstream mixes and what have you.

What are the best resources for obtaining decent tunes? Beatport seems a little pricey..my assumption is that maybe it’s a higher bitrate than iTunes.

I ordered on the 3rd or 4th of this month from Thomann.de, I’m guessing you ordered from a stateside retailer though? btw how did you wife know to get you the S4??

At the risk of sounding partonising, I really hope you have everything backed up to another drive somewhere! Whenever I hear of anyone storing their collections on externals I get flashbacks of me losing 700+ live sets collected over years :disappointed:

That is quite unusual taste for a yank

Well I use Beatport and Juno but there are bound to be plenty of others out there. Personally I find the overall quality of the music on Beatport to be a bit lacking :\ Obviously they have releases from established artists but they seem to have an awful lot of amateur internet record label type stuff. Some decent stuff, mostly average though IMO. I can’t speak for the iTunes Store, never used it

The DJ oriented sites always offer you a choice of bitrates, no idea if iTunes does. I’d assume yes? You can opt for a lower bit rate for a slightly cheaper price if you want. Screw that though, flac, wav or 320 all the way :stuck_out_tongue:

If you want to “try before you buy” , check out the P2P app SoulSeek. Amazing collections of underground electronic music there

/epic post :sunglasses:

Yeah, I keep my music in a few places, actually, haha.

And yeah, no one knows WTF garage is, here, so I’ll likely stick to bedroom mixes on that one, unfortunately. Dubstep has exploded with Rusko showing up, and Diplo showcasing it, but I dig the traditional, darker stuff, I think…benga, joker, etc. Really dug the Widdler’s last release, who is actually from New Jersey.

Damned if there’s not a place in the us that has any Katy B stuff, too…total bummer.

But I’ll share my euro-mixes with you guys since you’re down with it, haha.

And my wife knew to get the S4 because she was the one clawing me away from the DJ room at Guitar Center on about 10 occasions, while I was playing w/ the S4..

So get your credit card ready for her next Purse or shoes request

Valentines Day is coming up so I’ve already got it covered.

Another Traktor question: In waiting to purchase my Mac, is it going to complicate things if I went ahead and installed Traktor on my PC? Is the license only good for one machine? Or will it let me install it on both?

You can install it on 2 computer without problems.
