Sound distortion through cdj800 mk2 when connected to mixer but fine connected to amp

Hi all

I have a problem where the sound is distorted when i connect my 2 cdj800 mk2 decks to my mixer, i have jusr updated the firmware on both decks to 2.10 and still the distortion, i have also just bought a new allen & heath mixer as i thought the mixer was the problem as both cdj800’s play fine and perfectly clear when i connect them to the cd input of a stereo amplifier??? the sound is distorted through both mixers but fine when not connected to a mixer, can anybody please help as it has just cost me a few hundred pounds on a mixer & all new phono leads i probably did not even need.. PLEASE HELP!. Paul.

How are you connecting the CDJs to the mixer? What inputs are they in?

I am connecting with RCA/PHONO leads to channel 1 & 2 on allen & heath Xone 23 that i bought today, and same on behringer mixer.

I assume you are inputting to the LINE IN not PHONO input on the mixer?

If you’re inputting into the Phono inputs you’re going to have the sound boosted from the start which is likely causing distortion. The phono inputs will boost sound because they’re meant for for turntables which do not produce loud enough sound on their own. Line inputs are for CDJs or any other source that doesn’t need to have amplification beforehand.
