sound layers

sound layers

hello all! just wanted to say in like 3 days ive learned more here than anywhere else and this forum is pretty bad ass!!!

onto my question. ive been working on this track

everyone that hears it says to layer the sounds or that it needs more layers. what exactly does that mean. im guessing to make the sounds more full???

I don’t know what these people are talking about.

You could try looking at adding some transition sounds and effects into the arrangement, but the overall sound is pretty “Full” to me.

Not every track needs to have a ton of sounds layered on top of each other.

Lets see what anyone else thinks…

Needs a bassline

didnt feel like it needed any more layers. i myself would throw more percussion/hats in there but then again i always try to go for music that bangs. this has a totally different vibe and i enjoyed it like it was.

i thought so too. but i can never make, or find a sound i like. if you get what i mean? like ill have a chord arrangement or melody but the hardest part is finding actual timbre’s that fit together.

If you can’t get a bass line working change the kick to a long one instead

Sounds like you have all the parts there if anything maybe increase the volume on your bassline to make it stand out more. Anywho if you still have questions check out this guy he has lots of tuorials that may help.

yeah a subtle bassline could do alot for you…those kicks are hella punchy for the vibe that I am sensing you are trying to get, I would eq those a little differently or back off the compression, just my 2 cents

good work, i like the melody.

I agree about needing a bassline and possibly wanting to back off the kicks a bit. A little EQ would go a long way. I can almost hear a real bass guitar (run DI) going under that (as in…that’s what I’d try first)…possibly with something like a slow wah (or a slow lfo on an lp filter…same thing…kinda).

I also think the lead synths are a bit aggressive and–IMHO–ugly for that song. It sounds like the waves are a bit sharp or running through a really harsh distortion of some kind. I’d probably tame those before I worked on anything else.

I’m also not a fan of how you’re using the pitchbend wheel, but that’s a stylistic thing.
