speaker poping sound help

Hey guys I have a gig tomorrow for a house party that I’ve actually played for before. Last time I went my speakers kept making random LOUD spikes and cracking noises during my set, thankfully people were pretty forgiving but i’d like to avoid this problem tomorrow. I regularly use my Yahmaha msr 250s at home and they never really pop but I run my laptop, traktor s4 on one outlet and my speaker on another. During my last gig I ran it all on the same outlet and I’m guessing thats where I ran into the problem, so i’m just wondering if i can get any thoughts on this. I am running balanced xlr connections so i dont think its interference as much as maybe a drop or spike in voltage? (speaker is 250 w rating i believe)

tldr; would running a speaker, pc and mixer off of one outlet cause loud cracks from the speaker

Intermittent cracks and pops generally point to computer issues. Any sort of noise and interference is often more pronounced on a large PA system than on smaller speakers.

well i mean i’m running an hp envy m6 8gb ram, quad core a10 2.3ghz processesor so i dont know how it could be a compter issue ??

should i disable all background processes and run multicore processesing in traktor?

Lots of CPU power doesn’t mean you can’t have problems. Run through some of the Traktor Windows Optimisation guides to start with.

Where would I find a guide? Native instruments website??

I didn’t understand if you tried plugging your gear to different speakers and if it still made the sound…

but anyways, once I had a similar problem from my right speaker, I started hearing static, pops, sound quality was shit. I thought it was my speakers until I realized that it’s my mixer causing the problem. One of the volume fader was fucked so I sprayed some electric contact cleaner in there and now it works perfectly! Try testing your gear on different sound systems, different laptop, and different gear on the sound system to figure out where the problem is coming from.

AMD processors…

It could be something as simple as something in the house being switched on or kicking in, if I set my decks up in the kitchen for a party or whatever when the fridge kicks in it makes my speakers pop slightly

OKAY i’ve gone through some of the optimization techniques and still I get pops and I’ve monitored my pcs performance its running at 50% usage while running traktor what gives?? Before I messed with anything i never had any pops at my house now I’m getting pops here too!! I was reading about the wireless causing a problem (whenever I dj at home im on the wireless network) and so I disabled it to test, but now im even getting popping noises at home seriously what gives someone please help gig in 3 hours

no pops when I’m connected to a network :s
