Stepping out of comfort zone…

entering this comp (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22517647893) hopefully link works.

it says electro and funky as options, but i’ve decided to go down the hard route. fiddling on juno atm, got a list of hard house and psy trance tracks, which i’ll clash with some breaks.

not my usual style at all, but sometimes it’s fun to do something different, so i figured why the f not

i’ll post the result later today - the mrs is working a 12 hour shift at the caravan park club house today so got all day with no interruptions

Good luck dude!

i’m looking forward to it. given that i don’t know much about hard house or psy, i set juno to best sellers over last 8 weeks, then played through them and picked out stuff i liked. tried to avoid to screaming synth style of hard house - don’t like it.

tracks i settled on

Good luck.

now listening back to the mix (take 3). only bit i’m not 100% happy about is i wasn’t quite quick enough on my gater knob with my phaser/gater/filter chain, get a brief ‘buzz-fart’ noise. then all goes mental.
spiced it up with a brief tempo drop using a sax driven funky breaks track. from 150 to 128 break down and back to 150 on the drop

mix is up in here in mixes section

dammit, came second.

still pretty good in a way, but it’s not winning

Congrats man. You got second when you were playing out of your comfort zone. That sounds like winning to me. I’m sure that the guy who got first plays this style all the time.

Second’s pretty good as long as there were more than two people that entered.

lol, been offered a set later in the year from it now to. which is good :sunglasses:

well didn’t get to hear the comp winner in action, he had only just turned 18, and didn’t have ID…
