Straight Edge DJ

Straight Edge DJ

do any of y’all know any straight edge DJ?

Punk Rock Straight Edge is the only straight edge I know and if there is a Straight Edge DJ out there, I don’t know them. It’d be a pretty niche market though.

Define “straight edge.”

wondering this too.

When people say straight edge I immediately associate that with annoying kids with X’s on their hands.

I’m guessing it’s drug/alcohol free but I could be mistaken.

Well then yes, but I wouldn’t identify with the label ‘straight edge’ since that implies something else and this is for different reasons.

Is the person, the music they play, or both that are straight edge?

Yes?

I know some DJs who don’t drink or do any drugs, but they don’t play punk rock.

My mate is Straigtht Edge, no drinks/drugs, is a vegan and is into punk rock. He DJs DnB/Dubstep though, not punk, but he goes to punk gigs and all that.

Moby? - technically not a dj unless he’s paid to play at something like the grammy’s, but there ya go my 2 cents.

im confused

Until the OP clarifies his question this thread is “rudderless”.

Hmmm, never heard of it

Yeah I know a couple local DJs/producers that are straight edge. I don’t know if it makes a difference or not, being completely sober has its advantages just as taking a trip down the rabbit hole widens your perception to life. The two paths each have something the other doesn’t, I wouldn’t necessarily judge a musician by their substance consumption.

Experiencing the “trip” allows you to connect with the audience and feel what they’re feeling under the influence so as long as you don’t take it too far and make it an addiction, your fine. I wouldn’t play under the influence, usually that’s when I make careless mistakes although I know a lot of DJs do.

I suppose the higher you rise the more access you have to drugs and party favours, the club environment is fuelled by alcohol and drugs, so it is something that is hard to avoid. I would garner that a large percentage of DJs at one point or another, dabble in the black arts.

I do play some straight edge punk on occasion. I don’t drink, do drugs or smoke or anything else so I guess I’m about as close as you can get to a straight edge DJ. I don’t play out any more though so I may not count depending on your views. My son claims edge and goes to edge shows, but he’s not militant about it.

I’m not sure you can really have a straight edge EDM DJ because the whole movement is really based on the punk scene. At least I’m not familiar with anything outside of punk. Are their straight edge country bands? I’ll ask mini me and see what he says.

I saw him to a DJ set a few months back, it was surprisingly awesome.

There’s also Kaskade but he’s just a Mormon.

Xone - I think that Kaskade is a great example of a straight edge DJ! (well probably, the OP hasn’t clarified)

yea its pretty crazy that hes never drank or done drugs and still able to bust out 12 hour sets
