Studio Headphones..

Studio Headphones..

I really need to get a set, too many neighbors knocking.

What do DJTT suggest?

J

I got myself an excellent AKG 242HD.

The nice thing about it is, they tend to have the same sound characteristics as the Mackie HR624 Active Monitors.

But I can highly recommend the Beyer Dynamics DT-770, DT-880 and DT-990 with a slight preference for the DT-990.

I’m digging my new TMA1 Studio pair. I usually wear Grado but they’re open, and have no isolation.

Beyerdynamic is a safe choice!

Don’t forget about the Audeze lcd-3.

Aren’t open backs more suitable for studio monitoring? Assuming you’re not in a noisy environment.

Studio monitors though, not DJing headphones.

beats mixrs a good studio quality headphone?

No

Ahahahaha Beats. Epic.

not sure if trolling … or legit question…

A lot of people who didn’t like beats have warmed to the mixrs, and they even scored better in the DJTT shootout than both the Sennheiser HD-25 AND the Pioneer HDJ-2000. I haven’t tried them myself but I’m not writing them off just because they’re beats.

I just got some Beyerdynamic DT-880Pro (600Ohms), you need a headphone Amp to drive them though. Great bang for buck

Audio-Technica m50s is the way to go

Open headphones (monaural/binaural) are nicest for longer studio sessions. Your ears will fatigue more easily with closed headphones.
If I were to choose between the AKG H242HD, the Sennheiser 25, the BeyerDynamic DT-770/DT-880/DT-990, it would be the BeyerDynamic DT-990 or AKG K242HD because of them being open headphones. (DT-880 close third because they are semi-open if I am correct)

Not to say anything about the soundquality of the DT-990 being better, if anything, I think the Sennheiser will score as well as the DT-990.
The only two gripes I have with the sennheisers is the tight squeeze fit and them being closed cans.

My head’s too big so I’ll end up with a headache within 5 minutes of listening through them because of that tight fit.

I tried using my HDJ2000s as studio headset a few times, but they boost too hard in the mid range frequencies, so they’re not suitable.

The reason I got the DT-880 over the more expensive DT-990 is the more natural frequency response, which is what you want for production.

The top of the tree for me would be the Sennheiser HD-800, but they’re very expensive!

That’s what I’ve heard too. I’m curious as to how good these headphones really sound!

Tried the Mixrs in store, they’re not as bad as the standard Beats but the bass is still overblown.

Ahh I see, I guess the bass would be good for beat matching but not good for studio use. I don’t need headphones for studio use so I don’t know what to recommend.

I use Beats by Dre. I like how it cancels noise and how full the sounds come out of it.

AKG 240s are only semi-opened headphones, but I do like their completely over ear design, compared to something like the HD25, which is just uncomfortable.
