do i need a crossover??? what is the best one??
PLEASE HELP ![]()
thanks have been researching but need help on knowing how to do it with what my set up will be
Hi man, firstly; the speakers your trying to hook up are not subwoofers, theyre full range speakers.
Now youve figured that out all you need to do is take the main left and right out and put the left one in the left speaker and the right one in the right speaker.
Plug them into the wall and you should be good to go.
sorry man i must have not phrased my q right or u didnt get it..
i am going to get to ev 15 inch powered speakers plus and ev sub how do i hook this all up to my kontrol s4 better? thanks
) really apreciate it
S4 balanced outs -->xlr or stereo quarter inch → to eq → limiter —> crossover and then the proper outputs on your crossover to your speakers and subs.
That is the proper way to do it anyhow.
Is your sub powered too?
If not you need to drive it with an amp. If it is, then simply go from the ‘thru’ on the EV tops to the input on the sub.
 unless his subwoofer has a built in adjustable crossover this is a bad recommendation.
dont all active subs have a built in crossover? If not, it would destroy itself. Im sure the company who makes self destructing subs has stayed in business for ages.
would there be any point in having an active sub if it didnt have an inbuilt crossover?
Are you sure you arent confusing a separates system with an active system?
every subwoofer has a crossover in it. Every cabinet has a crossover in it. Whether or not the crossover is adjustable/active is a different story. And whether or not I’d recommend you use the subwoofers crossover instead of an external active crossover is separate from either of these facts.
An external crossover ensures the cleanest and most efficient signal is getting to the right drivers. Why would I spend thousands of dollars on a system for it to sound good and cheap out on a crossover that costs 100-200 dollars and will give me optimal sound from my cabs?
Edit: This also depends on what system you buy.
QSC’s HPR system seems to be designed with full DSP. If the system you are buying has full DSP than no you don’t need any other equipment.
I have monitors and subwoofer conected to a “Y” from the S4 main out ,for example, taking the left channel and feeding both the sub and speaker. Didnt had to put it with LPF thou… Booming affordable set of monitor speakers.
but thats an extra level of interference and potential breakage your putting into the signal chain unnecessarily.
If you spend over £1000 on an active sub regardless of whether the crossover is adjustable or not it has been selected and integrated as part of that subwoofer by a team of experts with a large R&D budget behind them. They chose that because it gives optimal sound for that cab, speaker & amp combo.
If it were the budget end of the spectrum I’d agree but adding another crossover into the chain doesnt circumvent the crossover which is integrated in the subs amp chain. Its pointless.
yeah, sorry, I’m tired. No sleep last night.
Im going to buy 2 http://www.proaudiostar.com/elx115p-two-way-powered-loudspeaker-open-box.html?gdftrk=gdfV21380_a_7c627_a_7c2662_a_7cEVE_d_ELX115P_d_B ev powered 100 watt 15 inch speakers do u think for small parties this wil have enough base until i get a bass and a crossover
you don’t need a crossover if you use an active sub. I was wrong. And “enough bass” is subjective. Enough for club level type bass - no - enough for acceptable listening of most music, yes. You’re only going to get frequencies down to like 80hz (at best i.e. in optimal conditions) before you get severe SPL drop off. More likely it won’t extend far below 90 hz. You want to get down to like 30hz for most EDM so you’re really gonna have a “thin” sound without subs. It won’t sound awful, but your highs will dominate and that “thump” will be lacking.
so should i get to active ev 15 or an active ev 15 and a active ev sub (and i wont need to buy a crossover)
? help
You want at least two tops because hi frequency sound is highly directional with lower angles of coverage as you get higher in the frequency range. 1 top will give poor coverage of any dancefloor.
2 active 15’s and an active sub will give a decent sound for a smaller parties. Approx how many people and what is the room size? Outdoor, house party, ect…?
To be fair, 2 15" is plenty for a small party. But it depends on room & crowd size.
If youre entertaining 30 or so guests in a room 10m x 10m you should be alright. EV are a great brand so you’ll get some good range with them.
A bigger room and more people and you’ll start to lose presence and volume. Then you need a sub.
