TBO, swing house is not really my cup of tea. Something about searing 303 bass lines with 1920’s sounding horn samples that doesn’t sit well with me. It’s definitely a cool new genre though!
yeah.. i’m really diggin’ this kind of genre.. especially when the summer finally arrives ![]()
check out earl pandas (ed paris) new mix:

i’ll post some other tracks soon.. check out http://www.myspace.com/robertboogert
I was pretty sceptical when I read that but that first track was pretty sick. Interesting genre to dedicate yourself to, sounds more to me like a one off a producer would go and make.
That second track reminded me of the song at the end of the ‘eels’ episode of the mighty boosh. anyone? haha
This from Mr Scruff from 1999 knocks the tits of any of this new stuff.
Mr Scruff is a legend up North (UK). I Djd with him once, it was an honour.
that record was on my first record order.
I played the shit out of it. FACK thats some memories…hazy, but they are there.
I can’t fucking believe you played w/ mr scruff. THAT is rad.
The artwork on his records was stellar.
What a great start to buying records… thats awesome.
Im glad it brings back good memories mate. It does for me to.
I remmeber the first nite i played that track, i got a promo of the album of my mate who is a mate of Scruffs (which is how i got to play with him). If i can dig the flyer out ill post it.
Ive been to his “Keep It Unreal” nite countless times (really i cant count) and he is the most amazing DJ. He does the whole 5hours on his own with 3 decks and i have never ever heard him drop a beat, even when hes mixing live funk and jazz records. Hes astonishing.
I can only imagine. I’m a big fan of a lot of his work. Ninjatune in general is killer. Really neat stuff on there.
I’m on the south east of canada, so I’ll never get to see him as long as I’m here, but I imagine his sets would be fairly interesting, esp. on vinyl.
I like swing and I like house so swing house is just the best of both!!
Check this mix out
Mr Scruff has a SoundCloud page with among other things some pretty long DJ sets. One of them being almost seven hours long WITH a track listing!
And the Solid Steel Radio Show on the Ninja Tune page usually has some good tracks in it. It’s always a good eclectic mix of stuff.
And shameless self promotion here.
I opened one of my first mixes since getting back in the game with some Parov Stelar.
I love swing house. Look into Greenskeepers and folks associated with them; Mike Dixon, and the G-Swing label (from roughly 2002); they did a couple of compilations but I still have all that stuff on 12". There was also another label that put out some great remixes of old Frank Sinatra type stuff; I have a ridiculous remix of an Yma Sumac song from that label. (I think it was called Electro Swing).
Oh yeah and a big +1 for Mr Scruff; he is amazing. And on the Ninja Tune vibe see if you can dig up the Jazz Brakes records – I have 3, 4, and 5, and they are all just brimming with funk. Not as swingy as what you’re looking for but a couple tracks are in that vein.
Here’s a swing house mix for the Mixed in Key contest last year – I was a little rushed when I submitted it and always meant to go back and redo it a bit cleaner (and longer; it’s only 15 min) but never got around to it… enjoy:
I think it was Riva Starr who made it big this year. He not just played it a lot, he also made several tracks in that style. I like it. It’s already starting to get old (Thanks to a million bandwagon jumpers per week), but it’s a nice alternative to the hard electro sound that dominated 2009.
One of my favourites is this, btw:
Anyone know the name of the track that starts at 26:15 on that soundcloud mix that photojojo posted?
I also love how We No Speak Americano is getting posted lots atm, its such an epic tune!
Another Scruff fan here, …not just his music though!
I’ve currently got a mug of his Mint & Chilli tea sat on my desk in front of me! ![]()
Love Mr Scruff, went to see him at the Music Box in Manchester and at De Monfort Hall in Leicester. Awesome and played from when we got there until when we left. Posted a few of his tracks on here before.
Gramophonedzie do a lot of what you were talkingh about, the below was number 1 here for a while, not sure if you have seen them elsewhere?
There’s a track listing on the SoundCloud page
This.
Oh, the irony.

It’s funny that most people in the house scene got a bit tired of this stuff several years before the mainstream picked up on it. I still play bits and bobs of it. The DJ Bang (Derrick Carter) release on Greenskeepers with St James on it is top business.
This is where it’s at :
Took a short listen to the stuff… For some reason I am reminded of Kid Koala lol
probably the old jazz samples.
