Synthesizer Options

Hi guys,

I’ve been getting more and more interested in music production, especially the option of integrating it into a live performance.

I’ve been researching different synth’s across the market and find myself stuck between two choices. The Roland AIRA System-1 and the NI Komplete S49.

The NI product is more expensive and I’ve heard bad things about their sales support on the NI forums. The Roland seems to be a solid product and I like the fact that I don’t need to run any software.

My question to the forum is what you guys would advise? I’m a complete beginner to production but see myself getting into it long term and want to buy something that will last. If going the Roland route I would most probably be upgrading with more of the AIRA range and if going the NI route I would probably end up getting a Machine.

Thanks in advance.

Complete beginner?

Don’t spend ANY money on it yet. You can get free software to tinker with while you are making up your mind.

Thanks for input Patch. Not a complete beginner then, I’ve messed around a bit on ableton and using a kontrol F1 ive done a fair bit of sample creation but still feel limited. I want to be able to play my music like an instrument. Thus I want to get my hands on some hardware and a synth is something Im very interested in.

Check out the Korg Volca range. They’re pretty basic, but a great intro to hardware synths. I have a Volca Beats and, while it is far from perfect, it syncs up with Traktor and gave me a taste for the others in the range.

'Ay. Peep that new Roland boutique series.
