Take your chainsaw!

Take your chainsaw!

Really loving the looks of the screens from the S8, but IMO in the future, modular setups are the way to go.

Please NI, make a modular version of your new beloved flagship controller (with integrated soundcard)…

I agree 100%
The S8 is HUGE and appears heavy. I don’t need a mixer either.

To pull it off though they would probably need to devise a way to send the data from Traktor via a linked LAN cable between the two units a la Pioneer Pro DJ link. Otherwise two USB cable sending what appear to be a LOT of data.

i just want the damm mixer! my x1’s will do everything else!!

I’d use the 2 side pieces in place of my x1 and f1…my s4 mk2 isn’t going anywhere

And that’s the problem with all-in-one stuff right there. It’s easier to carry, probably easier to plug in, etc.. But people have their own preferences.

I kind of whish all-in-ones had never been invented. They’re just not ideal for gear whores like me.

Indeed, everyone expects something totally different from their controllers. Designing your own workflow and being familiar with your gear became more and more important over the years. For a club, it’s impossible to cover all the different dj’s needs with one setup. One thing a club always will own is a decent mixer, and that’s were the modular controllers come in. Bringing your familiar gear with you on the road to rock the evening!

Doesn’t the X1, F1 cover the modulars?

Well, it’s all about the new screens and new functions

Yep.

The good news about the all-in-ones is that people are being smart and putting in both RCA and balanced outputs, so you can run it through a house mixer or plug it sraight into the FOH & monitor systems.

But that doesn’t really help if you happen to really like-for example-the S8 but want a different mixer just because you want a different mixer.

Except for the Freeze feature that was teased…and the screens…and the actually possibly useful touch strips…and the screens…and the touch-sensitive encoders (if they work)…and how they affect the screens…and the giant tempo knob that’s actually a great idea.

The X1m2 touch strips are actually usefull…

Enh.

I think they’re too small. They at least pitch bend, but I don’t like, really, anything else they do. And more than once, mine have gotten stuck in some kind of one-deck mode I didn’t understand and couldn’t get out of without restarting Traktor (rebooting just the X1 didn’t work).

I like that they were trying something, but I think they have them doing too much.

Cut out the mixer section and i can add 2 X1 Mk3’s to my setup :stuck_out_tongue:

At this point, I would actually buy a unit from NI that is:

  • The size of the F1/X1
  • Has integrated soundcard like a KA6
  • Has one or two screens from the S8.

Then us DVS users can completely put the laptop away and use the new unit for browsing tracks. Thats the only time I need to be looking at a screen. I use remix decks sometimes, but I dont really need to look at the screen to use the F1 at all.

Are we the only two DVS users that long for this?

This is what I have been calling for for ages. An X1 with a built in scratch soundcard (Audio 6 would be fine)… a bit like the old Allen & Heath 1D. Ditch the separate soundcard altogether.
Screens I can live without but yeah I understand people wanting a screen. It would have to be powered, a screen ‘and’ a soundcard is not gonna be powered by USB alone.

Yep I stole the integrated KA from you in a previous discussion.

I firmly believe that a laptop between you and the audience alienates both you and them, so a small screen for browsing tracks is ideal.

The basics, mostly, particularly the X1. A X2 with pitch faders, additional controls that were deleted from the Mk1 going to the Mk2 and hot cues 5-8 along with a few extra functions wouldn’t go astray, and a built in Audio 2 DJ or Audio 6 if can be done would be the icing on the cake. Even a second touch strip would be awesome.

Also, the S8’s remix decks can pitch shift cells, which I think is pretty darn cool.

I’d be excited about an F1mk2 that incorporates some of the new stuff.

Sound’s like you haven’t taken the time to learn how to use it. Here’s a tut on putting the touch strip in / out of single deck mode.

4.10 onwards

I think the s8 has other interesting features etc but it’s not portable basically. Turning up to a club with one will be a debacle.

Yes, that was the problem. Thank you.

Apparently, I put it in that mode accidentally, and I couldn’t figure out how to unset it. I’m still not convinced there was a dot like he mentioned out to the side. And, no, I haven’t taken the time. It does what I want. I still think I’d rather just turn them off.
