Technics 1210’s - LED’s (to mod or not to mod?)

I’ll be modding a pair of 1210’s soon. I’ll definitely be upgrading the target light with a superbright, white LED.

I’ll be selling the decks soon after they’re done. To those that are in the market for 1210’s, would you look for upgraded LED’s throughout? For me, the Green pitch LED, the Red strobe and the Green 33/45 button LEDs are part of what makes Technics Technics.

Changing the LED colour is easy enough (btw - face plate will be glossy white powder coated) but I’m not convinced that it always makes a difference to the overall appearance of a a nice, crisp pair of decks…

What do you think?

I doesn’t really add numerical value to your decks but it does add cosmetic appeal and if you are selling, it gives the potential buyer 5 less things to worry about going bad on a pair of decks. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can change all the lights out with their corresponding color of LED.

I completely understand what you mean about the lights being iconic for you. I feel the same about the platter dots.

Agree 100% - absolutely NO POSSIBILITY of changing the strobe on my Techs from Red to ANY other colour!

Great point re-LED’s and the possibility of things gong bad.

i changed all mine to the blue LEDs…love it…but then again…i am keeping mine :slight_smile:

Of course it does, about $200 to be exact. Often more, otherwise I wouldn’t bother. :wink:

Forget that, I wouldn’t bother replacing them unless it was all blue or another color. red/white/green would be ugly and a waste of time and not make the decks much more valuable or sellable really. Just do it all blue.

FYI, white DOES look good. Many of my clients have preferred white as primary and blue is secondary.

Hey - if all Blue sells, then that’s what I’ll do! Do you keep the target light as a super bright white, or switch that up to a blue one too?

Oh I wasn’t talking about white LEDs, I was just saying white paint with brighter stock colors is kind of ugly. All white is cool.

Which of the LED’s are primary and which are secondary? (Or are you just talking about order of preference?)

One day I wouldn’t mind a set of black Technics with all blue lights. Course Stanton 150’s come like that too.

I’m also doing a pair of high gloss gunmetal grey 1210’s right now. Seriously considering doing those with all white LED’s.

Do the strobe dots still work properly when the light is white?
