Technics Arcade Case + Xponent Case Project
Finally started this project a couple of days ago.
The plan is to make some cases for my Technics sl1200’s and my M-Audio Xponent.
Here are a few sketchup renders of what i want to build.
The first step was to make 3 box’s and then to cut them in half to create a base and lid.
Next i cut the panels for the acade buttons and knobs.
I couldn’t resist popping those buttons in to see what it would look like.
Next step was to fix the arcade panel in place and to route some holes in the back for all the connections.
looks f#@kin DOPE
Awesome project! I look forward to seeing more of it.
I take it you are a Torq user, but what midi control will you be using for your 1200 case buttons and knobs?
Phil.
Just done a test fit and everything fits nice and snug.
More pictures coming soon
Tried torq when i first got my Xponent but soon after switched to Traktor.
I will be using 2 modded usb gamepads for the buttons and knobs.
Oh and thanks for the comments
so you’re using the xponent as a midi-mixer basically? use the extra buttons for pitch bending, looping, fx etc?
i wrote the xponent off back when i swithed from torq to traktor but now i see the amount of buttons and me likey. i’m still a bit leary of the quality and considering the vci is about the same price. but this layout allows for a good amount of control.
sorry for heading off topic there. i really like the looks of the project so far.
Yes that is the plan.
Money is tight so ive got to use what ive got.
When ive finished these cases im gonna give the xponent a new spray job to match my decks.
Also i ordered extra knobs same as the ones in the photos to replace the Xponent knobs.
So do you have a dedicated slot for your A4/8DJ in behind the Xponent? (And I saw the Traktor vinyl after I posted
)
Looking forward to more.
Phil.

I wanted to but at the same time i wanted the Xponent case to be the same size as the deck cases.
Only time will tell if i made the right or wrong decision.
nice!
where are you getting the new knobs for the xponent? i’ve got an xsession pro and would like some better feeling knobs.
The knobs that i got wont fit staight on to the Xponent. The original knobs are recessed into the casing and the shaft doesn’t stick out enough to do a straight swap also the shafts on the Xponent are D shaped and the ones i got are round.
Ive got to drill the recess deeper and then make the knobs fit
you could try putting some small washers on the rotaries underneath the plastic knob caps to bring them up a little higher and not touch the casing.
Food for thought and it would save you time modding the case.
Update.
Gave the deck cases 4 coats of Tuff Cab Paint and fitted the foam.
Still got a little more work to do on the Xponent case.
I’m very pleased with how the paint went on. It’s got a textured kind of finish and i get the feeling it will live up to it’s name.
Heres a few photos of the components being used to build this project.
When i ordered the gamepads off flea bay i thought i was getting 2 seperate gamepads but when they arrived i noticed they were linked together.
I figure this is a good thing as i will only use 1 usb slot on the laptop.
Heres the rest of the components.
And the arcade buttons.
Gonna start putting it all together later today.
A few more pictures.
Everythings wired and working just need to get some flightcase hardware (angle, corners, handles and catches etc.)
Ended up spraying the Xponent and replacing knobs - still got to get some fader caps
Built a laptop stand for the Xponent case plus fitted both power supplys into back of case
Laptop fits in the case too
Just making a few mappings in traktor now
that’s so damn fresh!
Incredible work. Hurry up and finish so you can take my order for the cases I need.
Good form, really well thought out.
