greets

Go to beatport.com

Click on anything in the “minimal” chart. They all sound the same.

That’s so true

Minimal is great as a metronome. Then you can make some actual music over the top of it and then ditch the minimal track.

I look at minimal as being the Horse Manure of music. Start with some shit and make something grow on top of it.

Joke.

I agree to an extent … Minimal is gone crazy but some is frikkin class, look at hawtin, he can play minimal and make it interesting.

The prob is that every man and his dog is playing it at present, so much so that people now thing its techno. Techno to me is the likes of Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Surgeon etc

But they are right, go and look at the techno charts on beatport , you dont even need to check out the minimal section to get stuff like this … it hurts me! :disappointed:

Yeah there is some mind bending Minimal out there. Its just like any genre, goofs come along and dumb it down. Unfortunately Minimal more than any other genre lends itself to dumbing down due to the fact thats its, well , just less.

Good minimal isnt less, good minimal is cleverly subtle inmho anyway. What do i know.

Oh and also Minimal is not techno, not in my book anyway.

Genres … fuck em. Its all the Devils music anyway… fucking Elvis Presley, i blame him and his swaying hips corrupting the youth.

Meh… im going to bed.

Absolutely agree - one of my fav things to do is to blend into a minimal track and then use it as a base to layer stuff on top of.

:open_mouth::open_mouth::open_mouth::open_mouth::disappointed:

never mind them lance :stuck_out_tongue:

i think what folks are saying in here is that the song given is an example of a cliche, outdated and boring ‘minimal’ track. Beatport minimal charts have always sucked. Commercial minimal…if there is such a thing.

I love minimal/techno, there’s just so many crap songs to sift through to get to the good stuff

In everything produced by man you can apply the 90% rule.

90% is s***.

Say movies, books, music, etc.

http://boomkat.com has recommended track section that is pretty sick for any genre they cover.

Click on recomended and then drop down to the minimal/dancefloor section and im sure you’ll find something you like.

i don’t know if you get what i mean.. if i listen to the techno and minimal list of beatport i don’t feel anything..

another track for example:

@1:35

this underground feel is what i search in the tracks..

I would recommend you to look at Umek’s tracks and his label 1605. I really like his recent work and you can find it all on Beatport. Start from there and search around.

This is what i’m talking aboout!!! It pains me that Umek has turned to this. Umek used to make some proper techno pounders and now he makes this stuff. Whats goin on , why has everyone moved to this sound… it hurtz! :disappointed:

Whats happened to the harsher sounding techno , the more industrial stuff , why is everything so clean and fluffy sounding nowadays.

WE NEED SOME FILTH!!! PROPER DIRTY FILTH!!!

You can still find some oldschool techno artist, but there is a lot less of them than it used to be. Music is always evolving and even techno changed.
Here’s an old track from Umek:

and a new one:

Absolutely disagree!!!

And Dennis, you wont find the style you are looking for in the techno or minimal department, cause its none of those. Try searching for Hardstyle

Hm, I really dig the older Oxia stuff, Domino, Traces, Ruhestörung Plattenbau… That’s techno/minimal, nowadays it all sounds greek to me… It’s totally interchangeable.
I can’t get any feeling from it.

Maybe Dennis you want to speed up some minimal/techno and emphasize the bass a little more. Maybe layer in some percussion from a different minimal track to get the tribal effect going

I’d say check out Dusty Kid and Oliver Huntemann, see if that’s something that tickles you?

I’m not good with all these genre divisions though, I just know what I like when I hear it.
