The official NUMARK NV Hype thread…!! It’s Here!!

So I guess this might have taken some of us by suprise!!

Looks to be released this fall, with a price of $699.

Your thoughts??!!

Looks stupid, no touch functionality, what a fail!!!

…so let me get this right… the big deal is that when you DJ you can just down rather than slightly to the right or slightly to the left to look at a laptop - yeah that clearly “Changes Everything”.

I ain’t saying it’s not a cool idea to have screens on the controller but to say it “changes everything” is the worst statement ever. And people say NI go overboard.

Can you really close your laptop ? Cus the guy in the video does. If you can’t then they are liars.

Oh and it’s not a fail. It will be a decent controller with decent software…we all know that…

All that it changes is the angle of your head.

NEXT.

You will need something like Caffeine to keep the laptop awake if you close the lid.

In my opinion… if the pioneer SZ controller had CDJ 2000 screens it would be the best controller on the market. If it had standalone functionality.. well then it would rule the market!!

Why is a point made of being able to be in touch with the music and not a laptop? Just don’t look at the laptop and use your headphones…

Word… unless Serato have a new feature coming that takes care of that. Unlikely.
Anyhoo this simply renders the laptop to a glorified hard-drive. I’m unsure about that although it will doubtless have many fans.

Best for you maybe dude. I would not take that huge thing anywhere. Anything hailed as the best must be used in real life. I wonder just how many SZ’s are being used by actual gigging DJ’s. I think in this instance “Best” merely means ‘most like CDJ’s’ ?

The NV looks about as big as is reasonable to use live.

I don’t see a Master Volume LED on the NV or is that horizontal red strip the master VU? I wonder just how many times you won’t look at the laptop as there are probably many reasons to do so which negates the USP of the NV.

On the subject of touch-screens. I see no need. It’s just the usual clamour for everything on a controller. All the things you would do on a touch-screen you can do on the controller. I see no need for touch-screens unless - the controller is made smaller and some functions are just on the screens.

Agreed. If your the kinda DJ that does very well prepared/programmed sets then you have barely no need to touch or look at the laptop anyway. I don’t do manyt of those kinds of sets but I’m still no microwave DJ. It’s a non issue.

The Master VUs are right in the middle. Lid closing is a standard customizable setting on all laptops - you don’t need new software or a Serato feature for this.

I don’t know. I kinda feel like the screen is redundant. Screen on laptop, screen on controller. The only thing missing is Google Glass.

Oh, and an Oculus Rift.

Considering how massively useful I’ve found the loop length displays on the X1 mk2 and the Z2, I’m all for having more information on the controller, right where your hands are.

I think the more exciting thing to take away from this announcement is the clear indication that Serato is taking steps to more aggressively address the controller market.

Same thread, same controller, same wrong sub forum… 2 days in a row

Let’s get this forums better organized shell we guys?

Even though it has displays, I wonder if this will make “Serato-face DJs” setup their laptop off to the side. The displays are there to remedy a disconnect between the DJ and the crowd which is ultimately caused by the DJ setting up their laptop right in front of them. It’ll be interesting to see if DJs want to set up any differently.

It is interesting that serato and numark directly addressed something that djs have been asking for.

Im really surprised they beat Traktor to the punch on this.

oh and my previous statement about the pioneer SZ…i do like it alot but honestly i have found my controller setup for life, I use an X1, F1 and Z1. those 3 controllers have served me so well at all my gigs, I will never change.

Controllers with screens and CDJ+DJM setups with more and more DJ-software functionality, if we get this two curves together we will have the perfect all-in-one DJ device.

Blend two CDJ-2000s, a DJM-900 and a DDJ-SZ and it will fit probably 99% of the DJs out there.

I am not moved by this at all

Not sure what’s surprising about this, didn’t Stanton or someone do this already?

Stanton’s SCSDJ4c was a standalone solution which did everything in one box, the limitation was always their software (slow) and hardware (not alot of functions).

With this however, it allows you to use all the grunt of a laptop and features of Serato with the laptop shoved off to one side with the screen closed.

Chris Roman explicitly mentioned using something like Caffeine on the DJWORX Skype call I was in on, so Serato doesn’t (but should) have a solution to keep awake.

Anyway, I agree with Mojaxx that this doesn’t seem like Numark want to eliminate Serato Face, rather it’s to encourage more focus on the controller where possible.

Really impressed with the screens, the price and the look of the NV. First product since the SZ which I really like, and unlike the SZ I really want as well. But then I saw this:

Just make it stand-alone, add USB/SD slots to it and I’ll pay a premium €2k all day everyday. I really want this mobile CDJ/DJM set up

Could be a nice replacement to my SX!
