If you donāt know how to by now I wouldnāt even bother trying to, just focus on looking for good music
why not? i still want to know how
Takes a lot of networking, and itās just something you develop over time. Itās not something you just decide to do one day.
well ive been trying to find a way but no one has shown me the ropesā¦(when you mean networking as in forums and talking to other djās etc.)
I mean everyone in the industry, DJās, Producers, Record Label Owners and so on. Obviously their not going to just give you the tunes or show you how to get them, you have to build a rapport with them first and for most.
Also helps if youāre part of the industry as well.
so just out of curiosity this is how you go on about getting most of your music
and thanks for the info
Yeah being 1st isnāt really gonna be doable for now but you could start checking out music blogs from people who love digging up new stuff as they come
I have a strong network of people in and outside of the industry and we are always keeping each other up to date on music as we have similar, but different tastes.
But thatās just one way I get my music, I still do a LOT of digging (at least four hours a day) to look for good music.
Be it on pay sites, or not sites that are not so legit.
im guessing you established these connections through gigsā¦and can you share some of those sites (i know beatport and all those but maybe the non-pay =] i dont mind if it comes thru pm)
Thatās a bit of a tall order as everyone wants what youāre looking for. The only solution is to work - either by spending a lot of time trolling the internet or get to know a hookup. If someone had some golden goose that layed exclusive tracks, do you really think they would want to share it? Kinda ruins the āexclusiveā part now donāt it?
yeaa ive been searching and just found some good websites and i know what you mean its like someone asking me for the sites now that ive found them and i get nothing in return
A number of the sites are private ones so it really wouldnāt matter.
Another idea is to setup an FTP and allow your friends access to it, helps with getting music back ad forth a lot
1.)google āmusic genre you like + blogā
2.)look at that blog, read it, look at the blogs itās affiliated with
3.)???
4.)PROFIT.
You should be ashamed.
Everytime you download a song ilegally a label is getting less money, and so the artist, and that basically means the death of music.
Mainstream music lives from rights (playing music on radios, tvs, etc), and concerts. But underground electronic music lives mostly from djs and music lovers. If that minority doesnāt pay then who will?
I used to pay 20 euros for each vinyl with 2 to 4 tracks. Thatās like 30 dollars. Today it costs ten times less and people still ask where to get pirate music⦠ridiculous.
If you canāt pay 2 dollars for a track you shouldnāt even be djing.
Funny you should mention that, as a lot of these producers use software they downloaded illegally to make the music that they themselves are making money off of.
Do as I say, not as I do?
Lets be honest for a minute here, most producers admit that now a days the tracks they produce are nothing more than business ards to get DJ gigs, and thatās where the real money is.
Hereās a quote from a recent interview with Reboot to show that,
RA: You took a long time to leave your full-time job.
Reboot: Yes. I was working at my job until March of last year. It was a hard decision when I said, āOK, am I gonna quit my safe environment, my paycheck at the end of the month?ā Because, you know, I didnāt want to stand there and just have to produce music because of the pressure that I have to pay my bills. I think that itās a dangerous place to be. This pressure to produce a new track, to make a hit to make your rent. It kills creativity. I was waiting so that I could say, āOK, thereās absolutely no risk. Iāve got enough bookings for the rest of the year to be super sure that I will have no money trouble at all.ā
Piracy is here to say, itās just a fact, and Iām not for it or against just stating how it is.
Totally disagree. There is a very strong correlation between the best tracks out there and software paid for legitimately. Itās one thing to be a starting producer or student and to get software however you can to practice and build skills. But as those skills develop, real producers get tired of buggy cracks, no upgrades, no access to forums, etc, and realize that developers need money to supply the tools. They also grow a healthy respect for the work of the developers and software engineers, and realize that we all work as a team.
Producers with game pay for their tools.
Iād like to see the study that factoid came from.

As for the OP; just buy your fucking music like a real dj. I am offered promos from acquaintances like Kinky Movement and The Rurals but with the cost of music so low it seems churlish not to reward someone financially for making a good tune.
Another thing is that the djs who just play promos all tend to play the same thing (ie, whatever is doing the rounds this month). Youāre never going to stand out like that.
Oh jeez, another piracy theme thread hijack. Sadly there is no end to this discussion, and never will be.
