There comes a time in one’s life

Where you wake up one day and say to yourself,. “F*** me! I am 36 and need to learn to scratch!” It’s a bloody good job I sold my 1210s three years ago! (grrrrrr). So friends, with my trusty S4, no real skill and Youtube as my guide I intend to see if I can master the crab, the stab, the chirp and various other mobile phone models.

Before anyone goes rushing to their keyboard in disgust that I am not doing this on real decks, let me just say one thing, SHUT UP! The long term plan will likely involve the purchase of another pair of decks to replace the ones my father bought me for my 21st birthday but for now I am going to see what I can learn my little German friend.

Anyone wanna join me?

Wish me luck….

PS. If I never bring up this subject again please assume that I failed miserably
PPS. Where is Vangogo? I miss that bloke. Someone at least pop round his house and check on him…

GO ON MY SON
you do like to set out personal challenges dont ya

while reading this post,
i couldnt help but think of this scene from one of my all time fav films…
great film.

lol think weve all digged the fantasy

EDIT: oh and if ya need luck, ya can rub my lucky charms

I’m definitely looking to conquer inner space…

As for setting out personal challenges, I hand’t really considered that but I think you are right. I do have my triple-boot laptop firing on all cylinders - just haven’t gotten around to writing it up. This S4 stuff is really f*****g with my career as all of sudden, I don’t want to work at all

Take it for what its worth; the way I began to learn was by first getting a bunch of typical scratch samples and scratching on those w/ the x-fader left open. It kinda gets your hand used to the sensitivity (my spelling sucks) of the jogs or TT as well as getting used to what certain parts of a sample sound like at different speeds. I then worked my way to cutting the x-fader on my own, meaning not trying to emulate a particular scratch. My goal was to create something that sounded good and have the ability and control to repeat it. Once you feel like you have good hand co-ordination (spelling sux) , I worked on particular styles of scratches and so on. I’m no pro, but I am always practicing to get better.

BTW…I can share my scratch sample MP3 w/ you to get you started in the right direction

I’ll take the sample! Thanks mate!

[ame=“What happened to the old Zshare File Hosting website? | zSHARE”]zSHARE - ahh1.mp3[/ame] These are 4 of my favorite samples. They’re not set up like a typical battle record (i.e. one sample right after the other), but it’s easy enough to bunch them together if you like it that way. I personally assign a cue point for each.

I’m here lol. Been a busy week or 2.

Good luck with the whicki whicki practice! Check out DJAngelo on YT. I thought his scratch tutorials were good.

yep these are the best ones. I would also agree to start with the X-fader open and get used to scratching on tempo. Angello has some good ones.

good luck dude post a vid when uv masterd it

You don’t just up and leave with leaving a note for the wife!

Damn I’m already on my 3rd wife, don’t want a 4th, lol.

The third one’s had me busy moving furniture, painting, packing up xtra crap. Even had my computers down for a couple of days. We are getting the house ready to sell.
I swear I went through Traktor withdrawals.

How’s the baby scratches comin. A whick A whick Ah Freeeeeesssshhhhh.

Right now it’s more wicker wicker-chair staaaaaaaaaaaale.

I watched the first three Dj Angelo videos and agree that they are spot on. I shall be watching a few more this evening. I haven’t managed to get near the S4 yet with the phone ringing off the hook and my two year old going off the hook. I’m proper hookless.
