Hey everyone, I’ve been a long-time lurker here and finally decided to post because I’m hitting a wall with my current setup. Every time I get deep into a project with heavy VST chains and multiple instances of Serum or Kontakt, my laptop fan starts sounding like a jet engine and I get those dreaded audio dropouts.

I’ve been exploring the idea of building a dedicated studio workstation—something more “industrial” that can live in a rack in my home studio. I’ve recently come across some enterprise-level hardware, specifically high-end processors like a [64-core Xeon](https://serverorbit.com/cpus-and-processors/xeon-64-core/2-0ghz-16gt-upi) with the 16GT/s UPI bus speed. On paper, having 64 cores sounds like a dream for someone who never wants to freeze a track again, but I’m a bit hesitant about the 2.0GHz base clock speed.

In my experience, most DAWs like Ableton or FL Studio used to favor single-core clock speed over raw core count. I’ve seen some guys in the local scene building massive rack-mounted server enclosures to offload their processing, and it looks incredibly clean and professional, but I wonder if enterprise gear is actually the right move for real-time audio. When you’re dealing with that much bandwidth and UPI speed, does it actually translate to lower latency in a session, or is it just wasted power for music?

I really want to move away from the “portable laptop” struggle and into something more permanent and stable that stays cool under pressure. However, I don’t want to invest in server-grade hardware if the software can’t actually utilize all those cores efficiently.

Has anyone here experimented with high-core count Xeon builds for their studio, or are we still better off sticking to high-clock speed consumer
