I’ve purchased refurb, but only from dealers. You get substantial savings + a warranty. You may not get either from this deal. Dell has a new laptop (core2duo 2.0G) for about the same price. Apple has refurbs too on their site.

yah if i did settle for this deal it would save me a crap load of money…it has the manufacture warranty that goes up until 1/29/2009…And its got a pretty nice spec 2.5ghz and 3gb ram which would be nice for multi-tasking…The video cards not all that but I really havent been playing much games lately now that I’ve been getting into Djing..What Im worried is that the factory replaced it with some cheapo aftermarket parts instead of using all OEM parts…does that seem to be a problem and play in to the reliability of the unit??

I wouldn’t worry about it. When the company does its own refurb, they get it going with oem (or if those were the cause of the defect, better than oem) Their rep hangs in the balance. Look at what happened to Gateway.

Fast processor, plenty of RAM, and if you’re using the internal HD, a fast one, are ideal.

Not sure if you’re also looking into Apple, but I was able to get a refurbished 2008 Macbook Pro (not the newest unibody MBP that came out, but he model before it) for about $1400. IMO this is probably one of the best deals out there for the money (and it comes with a 1 year apple warranty).

Thats a pretty fair deal i rekon

buyer beware on craigslist.

other than that, refurb’d lappie…great investment!

+1

yah so i guess its not the best of ideas to buy a lappie off craigslist then eyyy…I’ll wait it out patiently than and try to get a new one =)

When Black Friday ends up a bust next week, expect to see killer deals as we get closer to Christmas.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about the Processor speed, nor RAM, as long as you can upgrade it to 4GB+. RAM is cheap right now, and pretty much all the current processors are more than you need for any of the DJ applications out there.

Get what you want when it comes to screen size, hard drive speed/size, and ports (USB and Firewire are handy).

personally i wanna steer away from the 4gb ram systems cus their all windows vista 64bit so 3gb is sufficient for me…I want a 16in or 17in monitor and a nvidia 9600 gfx card…thats the specs i see from the HP laptop that i want and they come with 4 usb ports and a firewire port…but the spec that i want it at is running around $1100 brand new…so I guess i shall wait it out til near Xmas time than…Another question i was pondering on is that when Windows 7 is released will it be able to be installed on existing vista machines or will this require a new platform??..

About Windows 7, I would not touch it with a 10 meter pole! But yeah, according to MS all drivers all hardware that previously worked on Vista will work on W7. The “Upgrade” is more of a cosmetic one and also more focused on Usability and new Software packages. Somethings what does not make me want to use it, is that they are trying to incorporate Cloud computing and that is a big no no for me. Internet2 (or web2 to some) might very well be around the corner with this release of windows, and then we can say buh bye to the Internet we know today :disappointed:
