What I’d like to know is, where do you think this genre/subgenre/etc. will go?
What do you think will happen to it? How long do you think it will last? Whatever you think of it I suppose.
Discuss?
I think that if you check out some of these 216 hits, you’d probably get some feeling for the broad range of opinions that people have on Moombahton on this site.

Don’t like moombahton, but i like the idea of 110bpm electro (some call that moombahcore), cause thanks to that girls can shake their ass, and it fills the dancefloor like nothing else. ahah
Like most EDM, it has its time and place. It’s your job as a DJ to determine exactly when that is and exactly how to make it happen. I didn’t like any dubstep until I learned how to lace it into my electro sets(still picky though!) and moombahton-core-step is pretty much the same way. Play with it, learn it, make it your own and stoke people out on that.
Ive actually been spin moombahton in my sets lately. the girls LOVE it. 110 bpm is perfectfor “latina” belly dancing which works great especially here in LA. build up the hype then drop peak time moombahton bangers and everyone starts taking their clothes off… lol. *almost kidding
heres a great moombahton banger
imo, its like the dutch version of dubstep. it goes hard but its not for everybody.
I’ve been on the verge of starting to pick some of it up to drop in a reggaeton set, so that I can play on a wed night and still get some crowd response with out completely hating myself for playing that night. The tempo is right and I think some beat cutting of salsa like bits of reggaeton would be a ton of fun. All that said, I don’t like it enough to be jumping all over the idea and doing it right now, but I do like it a hell of a lot more than reggaeton.
tbh, I havent given it enough time to form much of an opinion on it. The name puts me off a bit, but thats just presumtuous.
From the tracks youve posted it sounds like the bastard child of electro house and dubstep, slowed down a bit. Both of those lack longevity for me, as does moombahton.
It doesnt strike me as original music, and it hasnt taken much of a hold in the popular cattle markets around my hometown, yet. Although im sure it will surface briefly somewhere.
I think I’d be more interested in the underground side of the music, if there is one.
Some electro/dubstep producers slowed there music down and decide that had invented a new genre.
Absolutely pathetic.
I like Moonballoon or whatever its being called this week but purlease, lets not kid ourselves that its anything new.
People have being doing similar stuff for years.
All of a sudden some idiots have realised that 108 BPM is kinda groovy and they think they have reinvented the wheel.
I like some of it from time to time. It can be nice to switch up genres to something that is familiar (EDM) but also gives a different tribal type vibe
