Hey guys i have been having a hard time trying to get my foot in the door here in San Diego as far as playing at any bars and clubs. If anyone has any advice on venues that are good places to start, or advice in general, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Yo bro, just check’d out yr website, sick shit - we should hang. My girl & I recently packed up to move to Sacramento but last second got a place in Murrieta (right by SD) ill be moving down early this up coming month. Had to move back to SoCal.. well a couple of my boys down in Anaheim Hills own a promotion company, they promote/direct for mostly house/electro clubs, but I spin whatever I like (mostly electronic remixes & my own tracks/mixes) so as long as your cool & can mix, any genra & style in the dance class should be chill. Well ay even if you spin hip-hop, top40 or whateve It’d still be dope just to kick it with a fellow DJTT homie, gotta dip but hit me up whenev http://www.myspace.com/d4nc3
@JesC: Haha, i went over to tj about 2 years back. Isn’t it supposedly pretty dangerous nowadays?
@LiveFastStephen: Thats awesome man! Ive been looking for places to play electronic music just cuz the places ive played wanted hip-hop top 40 stuff. You can find my mixes here http://skybotmedia.com/?page_id=6 if you haven’t already run into them. Got any mixes of yours online i can check out?
If you have a facebook you can friend me here http://www.facebook.com/aloysius.reyes
if not ile shoot you a PM and we can exchange info
Dope man, listing to yr mix with my girl right now, styyylin man. we will definitely get along! ha so far iv got most the tracks in yr mxnky mix (which is pretty surprising cause my HD is pretty exclusive to only tracks i like enough to mix.) hahah & yea iv got a mix hosted, like most new comer dj’s it was when i first got down the basic fundamentals, got a few trick in the bag haha & thought i had all the skills! hah well i changed my soundcloud settings to allow all users to listen to my first (& still only recorded) dj mix (hah didn’t want it judgin me after the past two years of devotion to the dance floor)
Try hitting up local bars to get a quick gig, and some experience, to get into the downtown scene you have to be well known, even if just for partying there. Go down make friends with the promotors and DJ’s etc.
See ya around.
The days of tj clubs like iguanas are long gone. they chek idz at the border now, so no more “U S” and go. Does make you wonder what happened to all those clubs on AV Revolucion.
Have you tried just showing up before the spots are open, playing 4 or 5 tunes and leaving a cd. befriending the bar-tenders always helps.
probably not downtown or PB. they probly got too many already.
but all your neighborhood spots, yea. if it’s a bar that has djs(maybe like Kensington club), they’ll be open at like 5 or whatever, usually djs won’t start until 8 right. So go early and just see what’s doin. If it’s a spot that don’t open til 8(Dynamite or Whistle Stop), the bartenders will be there at like 6:30 cleaning up and getting ready.
Don’t quote me on these times, ain’t been there in a while.
facebooked you, San Diego local trying to get up and running too, i feel your pain it’s a tough town. Hit me up maybe we can chill and get something going, I know some people in town.
Yeah I was real grateful for the chance, didnt go like I wanted it to though. Doing Ableton APC40 sets of reedits and some stuff i’ve whipped up, I been DJ’ing for years but this is a whole different beast. Endless possibilities but you gotta put in the work though; good thing I love it and am only getting better.
It’s funny when I hear sometimes an Old Schooler go off on Ableton being “cheating”, granted its not true “DJing” but its also MUCH more complex and, IMO, more technically difficult to get right.
Alsius dude…your submission for the djtt competition on youtube made me want to dj and get the vci-100 even more back then! “and a bowl of rice” makes me laugh everytime! hahahaha
@anachroschism: When it comes down to it, its all about the music, so just keep doing what your doing. Ile hit you up soon and we can session. Is downtempo your main music style?
@robust: Haha, glad you were able to appreciate it. I got alot of mixed comments on it. What are you mixing with now?
i used to work for todd zweig for a few years. handled all his oc promotions for romper room and playskool back in the day. im sure he can open a lot of doors still.
i been meaning to facebook him anyway so, ill see what i can find out for you guys. if he can give some hookups, ill get back to you guys. bug me like thursday via pm so i dont forget. i just started back to school so alot on my mind lately.
Wow, that would be great. We would all appreciate that! i will be sure to send you a pm this thursday to remind you.

Thanks!
Yea I saw alot of those comments on the vids. I’m mixing with a vci 100, audio 2 dj, laptop and headphones. Almost exactly like yours haha. You still using the same setup?
