Just got asked to play the PE Sevens Tournament event in Dec.
20 - 30K people apparently!
They have a strict playlist that I will have to follow.
This is not my usual kind of DJ booking!
But done it before and it is PAYING PROPER!

So its 2 days worth of work. 2 x 8 hours.
Its not beatmixing etc and playing sets, but choosing the right song for the time of the vibe and to control the man walking in the crowd with a hand camās mic volume.
The type of music needs to range from old classics to new shit like LMAO.
Basically I will be playing during the game playing the appropriate tunes and in the breaks etc.
They will fly me there and back and put me up in a hotel and feed my ass.
I will be charging R10 000 for both days. I think that is fair.
The DJ last year had some attitude issues apaprently and seeing as this is a SARU event, I just want to do what they need me to and do it well.
Then I am sure they will keep using me for their other events.

My usual rate for outdoor parties etc is R1500 an hour, but canāt charge that obviously.
Grovel mate, so that you make yourself indispensible. Next time they might give you more license to do (some of) your own thing. Pity you donāt get to showcase your OODLES of talent in mixing . I think you could safely squeeze them for R850p/h. Not because they can afford it, but because youāre worth more than R625.

Where are the days of Barney Simon and Derek the Bandit, hell even Roger Goode. Not saying those guys are my heroes, but they certainly were heroes for music. Every weekend driving into CT (from Bellville) for a party, The Bandit would warm me up, even if he couldnāt mix well, he played loads of international set list. And Barney would rock us all on a Sunday/Monday on the way to Henry J Beans for after-weekend comedown drinks. And then they all got axed. WTF?! Luckily Roger Goode stepped in on Fridays, but as I understand heās gone too. 5fm had such a good thing going at one stage. Why did they fuck it up like that?! Hell, even Kfm is better now! Even RSG! OK, maybe not RSG.

So he knows I can do the job. Herā¦not so sure.

I used to want to play out all the timeā¦cuz I never practiced psy sets. I can mix on CDJās like a demonā¦and new the tracks I wanted to jam. So there was no joy of it at homeā¦only when I played out.
Now that I have a big ass setup at homeā¦I could not care about playing out to be honestā¦
Wellā¦until I rock my next Psy gig in Feb and headline on the Alternate floor in Janā¦then I will probably be hooked on the crowd again.
