I have been looking into getting a new pair of headphones and i think i have finally narrowed her down. Im looking at sol republic tracks HD or Beats by Dre Mixr. the sol republics are $150 and the mixrs are $250. Please leave any advice about which one you would choose and recommend others if you can think of anything else. Im on a budget of $250 by the way. All responses are appreciated.
I’m not familiar with the Sol Republic brand, but most here would advise you against buying any Monster products. If you are going to spend upwards of $250 on headphones, i would take some of these suggestions to heart.
ATH-M50’s and a box of beer with the change from the $250
But seriously, whatever you decide, please don’t buy Beats. I saw a review that rated a $50 pair of Sony’s higher than the top model.
I heartily second this. Beats sound awful, and, while a bit better, SOL Republic headphones are also a “style over substance” brand. A pair of Audio-Technical ATH-M50s sound excellent and also offer a 38 OHMs version that won’t require a dedicated headphone amp, either. At your budget, you would be best served looking at the low-mid range of Sennheiser HD headphones (each one has its own sound characteristic, so look them up), AKG, or Audio-Technica.
…Generally speaking, Beats are aimed at the commercial market - and they sound horrible. For $250, Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, Allen & Heath, hell even Pioneer make higher quality headphones that won’t really break your bank. Throw your ears on a few, chances are you’ll find something you like within those brands. Let us know how you make out.
Just to clarify this - Beats by Dre Mixrs are not Monster products, and are well worthy of consideration. The DJTT group test backed this up as well, and did our own review.
I know its a BS thing to say, but if you want to be taken seriously as a DJ, don’t get beats. You have a better chance of being taken seriously showing up with a mixtrack and earbuds.
Senns are good, tma-1s are good, basically anything mentioned above will work great. The reason beats aren’t good, aside from the douche appeal, the bass it too much, and it makes for difficult mixing. That, and they are waaayyyy over priced.
