**Traktor 2 pitch using CDJ’s & timecode**

Hi,

When using my CDJ 800mk2’s the pitch slider has always seemed overly sensitive. I assumed this was the norm until I played out at the weekend on a pair of CDJ 1000’s using the same setup I have at home (timecode) and the pitch slider’s were a lot less sensitive. They were behaving as they would when playing with CD’s. Mine don’t?? Is this due to the CDJ 1000’s having a better pitch resolution?

thanks🙂

Are you sure you have them set to the smallest pitch range? With the same length pitch slider and the same pitch range there should be no difference in sensitivity.

The set tempo range is on 100% and the current tempo range is on 8%. None of the settings were changed when using the 1000’s just literally plugged in my audio 8 and relevant cables.

Did you change the tempo range on the CD-DJ’s themselves? 🙂

No, As I said before I just plugged my Audio 8 in and off I went. The DJ before me might of. I wasn’t aware you could change the pitch range on the 1000’s TBH. you can’t on my 800mk2’s I don’t think.😕😕😕

Just about the pitch control there is a button with TEMPO (+/-6 / +/-10 / +/-16), have you tried that? 🙂

Yes there is. It’s 8% and “wide” I think?

</div>

Oh well if that’s what Bong Squad then it’s on 8% not wide. Maybe it was to do with the 1000’s pitch range being set higher which was why it was less sensitive. 😕

No, that would make it more sensitive, not less. You can set them to 6% though, is it possible that they were?

You think? i thought increasing the pitch range would make it easier to accurately achieve the required BPM? Where as at the moment on my 800’s a slight movement on the pitch slider will send it up by roughly .5 of a BPM hence making it less accurate to achieve the required BPM.

Increasing the pitch range makes the resolution steps larger, hence achieving a lower resolution.

</div>

Increasing the pitch range = larger % interval per mm = higher bpm per mm = the same adjustment to the pitch fader results in a larger change in the tempo of the music.

Assuming the pitch fader is 100mm
**+/-10%** pitch fader: 1mm adjustment = 0.2% pitch = **0.28 bpm** change @ 140 bpm
**+/-20%** pitch fader: 1mm adjustment = 0.4% pitch = **0.56 bpm** change @ 140 bpm

So as you can see it become more and more difficult to make fine adjustments to tempo as the pitch range increases. This makes it easier to get a perfect tempo match with a smaller pitch range.

</div>

In which case could it be that the 1000’s have a higher resolution which is why I have noticed the sliders to be more accurate than my 800’s?

**IF** they were set to a **pitch range** +/-6%

I’m not sure the actual resolution of the pitch faders is different, I thought they used the same components. Either way they are fine enough not to actually have any difference here, unlike with shitty midi controllers.

I don’t understand why a slight movement of the pitch slider on mine increases/decreases the BPM so much if the difference is that little.

It’s a proportionally huge difference between +/-6% and +/-10%!

</div>

Yes, But if mine are on 8% and the 1000’s were on I’m assuming 6% because they were more accurate in achieving the fine adjustments. It doesn’t make sense why the difference would be so noticeable.

CDJ 800mk2s don’t go to +/-8% I swear. It’s +/-10% or wide, right?
