Traktor Pro 1.2.7 or Traktor 2.x

So I’ve given tp2 a third two hour trial run. I absolutely cannot get into it. It seems clunky, different, with no real improvements other than coloured waveform display.
My question is:
Are people still using 1.2.7? If so, does anyone else have the same feelings about TP2?
I still have a 1.2.7 license and it’s still installed and stuff, but I don’t use it. I’ve got TSP 2 and honestly I don’t really use the loop recorder all that much, I’ve played around with the new Fx but don’t really use em often enough, I already was doing one shots with 1.2.7, and I can probably get away without using the loops in the sample decks.
1.2.7 is a lot less strain on ur cpu than the newest TP2, def a very good thing. For me I could prob go back and not miss anything (maybe not the colored waveforms), but thats just me.

agreed. Cpu usage isnt really an issue but i just cannot stand the way tp2 seems to operate. It seems like it doesnt have as smooth a flow as 1.2.7. I do one shots in 1.2.7 fine, and really tried getting into using the loop recorded but just couldnt feel it. I guess it doesnt matter what you’re using as long as you’re killing it, right?!
It also occured to me that if i’ve given a piece of software (or any hardware for that matter) a 6 hour trial run and dont like it: it’s probably not for me.
I have the same feelings.
I only wish 1.27 offered a +/- 6% on the Pitch.
I really prefer the Spectrum wave forms, it’s a lot easier to ‘see’ your track if you’re mixing a set you didnt prepare at forehand. I know a lot of people will say; blabla you should know the track, ofcourse you do, but if your HD crashes or you get a playlist you don’t know, it tends to be a bit more helpful than the yellow display, doesn’t it?
i love tp2…you can’t have a better combination with S4…

I have mixed feelings use both been using 2 more on my laptop I don’t know if I like it more then 1.2 it appears 2 has potential but I just haven’t used it nearly enough I’ve only used maybe 8 hours in total it will grow on me but I fear when I get my ns6 setup I’ll not bother mapping it to 2 and just use itch unless 2 grows enough on me

TP2 is way better than T1.2.7 simply for the Sync handling alone.
No disrespect at all but i heard a lot of this during the transition from Traktor 3.1.4 to Traktor Pro in fact, i was one of the descenting voices… it took me 6 months before i moved over.
I can understand the point about the waveform. If your playing straightup 4/4 music and you dont need to see the spectrum view, the waveform can ‘seem’ less informative as it no longer has the ‘Beats, Highs, Envelope’ that made it very easy to beat grid a track, far more easy than i think it is now and this is a slap in the face to all those people that went on and on and on about zooming in on the waveform. That has not helped me one iota.
I dont use the loop recorder and barely use the sample decks but i still prefer T2.

The actual waveform is hazy…so i’ll never use TP2
I can’t understand why there is not the option for “classic” waveform…
Since the begining Traktor had Classic “Beats, Highs, Envelope” waveform…it is better to make loops, cues etc… many more accurate
They didn’t ask DJ & imposed their new waveform & they think all Dj will upgrade ??
I think they noticed less upgrades than before ..that’s why they sent several survey by mail to us…
Well I hope they will listen to DJs more in the future…

I brought this exact subject up during the testing of Traktor Pro way back when.
The new ‘Tru-Wav’ waveform is completely different to the original one. Its not possible to have both.
Blame the people that nagged for Serato style waveforms cus its their fault
I like 1.2.7 because I know the performance I can expect from it. Stability, efficient CPU usage etc. For the moment I don’t feel I’m missing a great deal on 2.x.x. When the dust settles and it becomes more of a known quantity I’ll move on but for now I’m in no hurry at all. 1.2.7 with Maschine does all I need for now.
Here’s hoping Ean’s upcoming VCI-400 mappings will work with TP1 too.
My laptop isn’t powerful enough to run 4 decks with 4 fx units anymore using TP2, but I don’t care anymore either, so the extra CPU usage doesn’t bother me - the bump in cpu usage upgrading from a gigaport HD to an audio8 was much more annoying back then.
What I spin ranges from deep house to peak time berghain techno.
TP2 has my vote for this:
-The spectrum waveforms, even with these kinds of music provide a wealth of info that just wasn’t there with the VIC20 look before.
In fact, in some cases it makes all the difference between a big consistant yellow chunk and phrasing becoming apparent (usually in really minimal yet heavy/chunky techno).
This allows me to set less markers through my tunes.
-The extra layout options allow for a cleaner “main” display.
-The timecode scope which can be collapsed into a micro timecode signal meter.
-The red/blue rel/abs play markers in relative timecode playback. I’ve gotten confused before…
-Since after 2.0.3 I don’t have to add a split second of silence at the beginning of every flac file because TSP doesn’t chew it up anymore.
-Output merging is nice to have. Usually decks C/D are for small loops from A/B and I don’t really have to have both running, so I can merge them into a single channel when playing out.
-Sync mode tweaks have smoothed out my timecoded A/B master + slaved C/D workflow.

The sample decks and loop recorder don’t matter to me, although I did experiment with them. In the end since I use 1/2/4 beat loops, I’ve setup my X1 so I can “send” (copy) A>C or B>D then enable the loop lengths I need.
I couldn’t care less about the new remix decks in 2.5 and unless this major update brings other features of interest, 2.1.x or wherever they stop before 2.5 might be where I draw the line for some time.
Have been using 1.2.7 until very recently. Finally jumped ship after being happy with 2.0.3 so thats the version i am at right now.
On 1.2.7 as well. Couldn’t get TP2 to run right on my old computer, which is a shame because I did like the zoomed in waveforms, and would love to be able to use the led outputs on my VCI-100 with my Dicers (ugh.). But i find 1.2.7 to be much more stable than TP2 for me, so that’s where i’ll be until the macbook comes…
I’m on an i5 mbp 8gigs ram, it wouldnt even be close to a problem running tp2. You say it “handles” the sync function better? How so? It seemed to me to be waaaaaay different in terms of sync between 1.2.7 and tp2. Anyone have clarification or more to say on that? ALSO, it seems all of my cue points and beatgrids are not the same in tp2.

On a serious note, soft sync was enough for me to stick with T2. Most of the things I’m not 100% happy with were already present in the previous version.

I just don’t care about the waveform, something way more important happen on my dancefloor. Keep your eyes off the screen …
the new waveform are ok, the best feature is still their new “zoom” factor. Easier to do/check grids on the spot.
Only love for TSP2.
