Traktor Pro 2 with Serato Box

Traktor Pro 2 with Serato Box

I have tried to search for this in the forums but simply cannot find it. Too much junk to look through so if there has been in depth discussion on this topic I apologize. Please just link me to the discussion.

Is it possible to use the Traktor Pro 2 with the control code vinyl using a Serato box? It would be quite useful given that most clubs just have a SL1 or 2 hooked up and get retarded when you mess with their shit.

Nope, too bad.

This should help, there was a discussion on interchangeability of Traktor and SSL boxes the other day.

I here there are windows ASIO drivers that can accomplish something like this.

As far as I know there are ASIO and core audio drivers for everything except the SL-1. Obviously none of them work with Traktor timecode.

Fixed that quote for you dude.
There are NO clubs in my city that have SL boxes installed or even owned.
There are at least 4 that have Audio 8s either installed or owned.

Jus sayin’

ASIO and CoreAudio will work for all but SL1, though not for timecode and not for the new MacBook Pros. Only Native Instruments Soundcards or Traktor Certified Mixers will work with timecode, barring some sort of hack/crack/workaround of which I’m not aware and have no interest in. Even if you could get it to work on other hardware, it probably wouldn’t work well considering it was designed and specced around the NI/NI licensed hardware.

Traktor Pro = will work with suitable drivers.
Traktor SCRATCH pro = won’t work due to NI being a dick and limiting their software to specific hardware purely for profit reasons.

Isnt that exactly the same as Serato limiting SSL to the SL boxes? (i know your not saying that it isnt, im just pointing it out for balance).

Plus, as you say Traktor Pro can be used with any card.

Not sure how “profit reasons” would come as a surprise but also one of the reason NI cite is the same reason that only certain mixers are certified. They have to meet a high enough standard.
No doubting that many soundcards are of high enough quality (ive got 2 Presonus cards that could/should do the job) but … its their DVS software, its their choice. They can restrict it cus its good and people want to buy it.
There are other DVS systems that dont require any proprietary card. My only guess is that those companies assume that less people will buy their software if they restrict it to certain hardware.

Serato are almost as bad, though I feel that it was rane that pushed that upon them as part of their little partnership deal.

I understand that is their choice but that doesn’t stop me from disagreeing with their decisions. There is no fundamental reason why Traktor cannot work with any interface out there, it’s purely business. I completely understand why their did it but it’s still completely against my believes.

You don’t need to defend them. It’s not surprising. Every for profit company in the world capable of making hardware and software in the way that NI can would do it. I’m more looking down on the industry and the mindset as a whole than NI in general.

This is one of the reasons I switched to an open source project, I feel proprietary methods holds back the progression of technology.

And you cannot honestly say that they are not just doing it to make more money, now, can you? :stuck_out_tongue:

No i never said that the profit thing was not the primary motive. I believe it is.
I do however agree that NI should want TSP to be used with decent cards cus i know the Timecode Hack that allows shitty cards to enable timecode support provides very very poor quality DVS, very bad.

And, im not defending them (not at least in the way that it may seem). I dont defend NI in a partisan way as much as people would believe (and i know that people dont believe that, im not naive).

If my Presonus FireStudio or Firebox (firewire) could be used for TSP it would solve all my USB issues and probably change my setup in a great way.

As for your beliefs, trust me mine are similar. Ive long held and spoken out against the way NI force users to use a complete NI DVS.
I guess i have to rely on TSP for pretty much everything in my life (house, car, food) so my choice of software has to be one that is as stable as possible and i choose NI.

As for NI making money… They realised a long time ago that the software was only one part of the real money and today, maybe a smaller part.

NI are painted as the devil far too many times for what they do. I dont see anyone else being so inventive yet more philanthropic … until i do ill still say that NI are no worse than anyone else.

No worse than anyone else, except the open source community. God bless those bastards and may one day they actually make a product capable of competing with any of the other DJ programs :stuck_out_tongue:

North America
