Traktor S5 vs s8

Traktor S5 vs s8

Hey guys I’m new to djing and just bought the traktor s5. The main difference seems to be that its lacking stand alone mixer capability and some fader and dedicated remix effects knobs. In order to remedy this is it feasible to buy the midi fighter twister to improve workflow?

The S5 is more than any beginner will ever need. Get comfortable on that first, and once you have exhausted all your software and hardware options you should buy gear. Chances are if you are a beginner you wont need any of the extra features of the S8

S5 is awesome for standard four deck mixing. If you want more, go for the S8.

Source: I’ve reviewed both.

Hi Elektrowolf,
We have made a Twister mapping that controls all four Stem Decks in Traktor. Check it out!

Currently each vertical column is representing one deck in Traktor (A+B+C+D) but since you’re using S5 as a internal mixer I could help you with remapping those knobs for you (C+A+B+D).

PM me if you like the idea.

yes..

you will out grow the S5 and you will want to enhance workflow with midi devices.

that’s my exact setup Kontrol S5 with the MF twister..
I’m fine with it (rookie here)

Definitely go with the S8. If you produce, stems decks is worth it enough on its own.

Features only matter if you use them

I’m right there with you, but I guess it all depends on what you want to do with your controller. Features are only useful if you use them. I have an S8, and I chose it because it has the robust stems controls. It’s huge, and heavy (for most people), but it has the features I want, so I got it. The S5 is a great controller as well, but I believe Native Instruments made it for people who like (most of the features of) the S8, who won’t be working with Stems.
