Trouble with recording.

Trouble with recording.

I’m trying to record a mix but the audio is being recorded stuttering, as if the transform effect is active on the mixer.

I’ve got:
Pioneer DJM800 mixer.
Behringer UCA202 external sound card.
Ableton Live 8.

I’ve connected everything up as instructed, and watched a YouTube video on how to have Ableton set up to record the audio.

Red/White RCAs from ‘Rec’ on the back of the mixer to ‘input’ on the sound card. The sound card is connected to my laptop through the USB port.

The audio is coming though clearly and at a satisfactory volume/quality - just broken up.

WHAT CAN I DO?!

Have you tested the Master Out RCA sockets too?

I’d bet this is a computer issue. Are you mixing using software on the same machine that you are using to record? Playing and recording audio at the same time is hard work, as you are contantly reading and writing to the hdd.

If you are mixing externally, then you probably just need to turn your latency down a little in Lives preferences. Take it REAL low - latency doesn’t matter one bt when you are recording from an external source.

Latency up. Not down.

Oops. :open_mouth:

Thanks for your suggestions, but nothing has worked.

Makar - What do you mean have I tested the Master RCA sockets? The master RCA sockets on my mixer are connected to my stereo which is playing the music while I DJ.

Patch - No, I’m mixing on CDJs connected to my mixer, I’m only recording on my laptop. I tried turning the latency up, it sounded worse and still broken.

Anything else I could try? Thanks in advance.

What software are you recording with?

Try something simpler like Audacity too.

Ableton Live 8 (free 30day trial activation) - not buying it till I know I’m happy with it.

I’ve heard Audacity can be a fucker to sort the levels out on?

I’d guess they disable the recording feature on trial software.
