I think it’d be pretty great to have a tutorial / article on DJ Drops, how to get one, how to use them and so on. Also, intro / outro jingle to recorded mixes (such as podcasts, etc.) would be a good topic too.
EDIT: A little clarification:
What I’m looking for is opinions and useful insights from people with experience with drops. When you think it’s good to use them, best practices, whether drop creation services are worth it or whether they’re just junk, and so on…
I also think an in-depth article about it would be valuable.
Also, wrt. Podcasts, the question is not about how to make one, but the same, what the community’s opinions are on fancy intro / outros, drops, and so on.
as far as podcasting..we have a tutorial on that (albeit mac, the concept is the same), and it can also be found through the search function:
after reading this, i was able to easily add an intro to an already recorded podcast through the information i learned in that tutorial. they are also basic concepts of the software that you will be using. it’s good practice to have a basic understanding of what you’re working with before trying to accomplish something with it.
trying my ideas before calling me a troll, always good practice as well.
If you had posted any, sure. RTFM is an arrogant and trollish answer. Props on elaborating with links though, I did not notice that “Name Drop” thread, which looks interesting.
I had in fact searched and googled before I even posted that topic, and I am not looking for custom drop creation service, which are easy enough to find on Google.

My opinion is that if they are used at all they should be used tastefully and sparingly. A friend of mine does a quick little talking intro about the mix on his podcast, but that’s it.
I’ll probably start doing the same thing, explaining my mix and what the listener can expect. But those annoying “DJ IS ON THE DECKS!!!11!!” through a mix just kills my energy and makes me want to turn it off. Same goes for, y’know, live.
I would have to agree to disagree with you guys. Sometimes they are really anoyying and kill the mix but I think they can be used to enhance the mix aswell. When a song gets to a peak and is about to drop the beat just add your exciting tag in there to enhance that drop off. It has to be an appropriate and well done tag though.
