Two Luanchpad minis in Traktor

Two Luanchpad minis in Traktor

I am setting up a new combo of controllers, but have run into a problem.

I am using two launchpad minis and Traktor gives them the same name, so every time I open Traktor it will place all mappings for either Launchpad on one of them.

I tried to go to my MIDI setup and rename both of them with unique names but Traktor still just call them both Launch Pad Mini and bundles all mappings on top of one when I restart Traktor.

Any insight on ho to solve this?

I use a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.10.2 and using Traktor Pro 2.7.3

Hey, I’m not so familiar with Launchpads to give you right answer, but is there any way to change the midi channel for one of your minis?

I’ll look at this one later,
I got 2 launchpads, but I use one in conjunction with my Denon Controller, I’ll stick both into the same config later, see if I can answer your query.

What way will you be using each Launchpad?

Are the Launcpads running on the same Midi channel?

Launchpads as far as I know, allways transmits to midi channel 1, but that should not have any effect here as each mapping is set as a seperate device. The problem is when setting in and out ports. Before I had a Launchpad mini and a regular launchpad. That setup didn’t give any problem as they had unique names in the in and out setting. I need more space and opted to switch the regular launchpad for an extra mini, but both are now called launchpad mini in the in and out setting, so whenever I turn on Traktor, it sets all launched devices to the same Launchpad midi and I have to manually switch the in and out settings back to the correct position.

I thought the same before I tried map my APC mini but as you also figured with your Launchpads some midi controllers that comes bungled with Live could ignore midi ports in Traktor. I do not have two APC but I can produce the same issue if I send same Note+Channel from my other controllers.

If the Launchpad firmware doesn’t offer some sort of channel changer or editor software I suggest trying Bomes MIDI Translator software. See if that recognizes pads as separate devices and tweak the midi channel for one of them.

Yea, it’s transmitting on the same channel, but if traktor can see them seperate, that won’t matter, because it sees it as transmitting on DEVICE/Midi Channel 1 like you mention. Or at least that’s my understanding as well. I have 3 controllers attached and all send some commands via Midi Channel 1, and I’ve got LED return commands too, all working fine, I did need to go into the settings and change global settings to specific decks/FX and mess with modifiers a bit, but all good.

I have set up 2 Launchpad S devices here, and Traktor sees my Launchpads as following. And it doesn’t stack up the mappings either.. and this is taken after I’ve restarted Traktor.. u got the launchpads on the same usb hub or anything like that?

The midi translator is a good idea, to the best of my knowledge, you can’t change the firmware to allow the sending to a different channel.

This has nothing to do with midi channels but with device names.
As long as the mappings are set up as separate devices you can run as many as you like on the same midi channel.
I can set the device names manually and everything is fine until I restart. Your Launchpad S for some reason calls them “Launspad S” and “Launchpad S #2” thereby granting unique names, my launchpad are both called “launchpad mini” as my picture shows thereby creating the confusion. I could go through a midi tranlater like Bome and thereby renaming it, but since I don’t need to rename the command itself I feel that would be an overkill as I just need a way to rename the device.

They on the same usb hub?

I have tried switch set them to separate ports on the computer but the same issue applies.

That is weird.. I’m confused.. and sorry dude, I cannot offer any further answer to your query, I just don’t know.. it seems odd as hell that if the devices are on 2 seperate USB addresses, that it still sees the exact same device. Next stop would probably be system settings to determine if you can rename it outside traktor in your computer sound device settings.. other than that, stumped

I understand what is the issue, and one solution would be using some midi translator to alter midi channel in the Traktor. You can use extreme mappings editor to easily tweak the midi channel on your entire .TSI

This sounds like job for Novation support. Perhaps a firmware update or factory reset would resolve it.

Hi DJJJ,

I think the solution here may be to give each Launchpad mini a different device ID.

To do this, please power on your Launchkey while holding the round pads numbered 5, 6, 7 and 8. When it powers on, you should see the top two rows of square pads light up.

If you press the first one of these pads, you’ll see the Launchpad show ‘ID - 1’. If you press any of the others, the device ID will be set to whatever number pad you pressed. Set on of your Launchpad device IDs to 1 and the other to 2.

To exit this ‘bootloader mode’ and start the Launchpad normally, press the square pad in the bottom right of the Launchpad mini.

Now, in Traktor, your Launchpads should show with their ID as a suffix and will be identified individually.

I hope this helps!

That’s a pretty good tip Eddie! Didn’t know you could do that!!

THX Eddie.

It worked perfect
