Hi, my name is André AKA U Liek and this is my setup
Old, tired Macbook, Novation Twitch and Roland SP-555 on the top,
Gemini CDJ 210 (awful piece of useless tech!!!) and Numark N4 on the bottom.
I am replacing the CDJ 210 with a NDX 900 hopefully within next week, and the N4 will be replaced by a 4 channel mixer, perhaps the DJM 800. The main outs goes to a Yamaha mixer and a full (but small) RCF P.A.
The Twitch does not run though the SP-555 at the moment, just straight to the N4. I am using the SP just to launch samples at the moment, while learning the rest of the SP. Then maybe I´ll hook the Twitch into it later…
I started DJing in May 2012, with the N4 and Virtual DJ LE, but that quickly became a limited solution. I wanted to try something new and thats why I got the Twitch, wich I absolutely love apart from the fact that I get shocked when it´s this cold. Lot of static electricity x) I wanted a CDJ for some scratching and ended up with the worst product ever to be known by mankind, the Gemini CDJ 210. It won´t even play.. Like just play them! I didnt pay much and got it second hand, so no biggie.
The Roland SP-555 is the newest member and has won my heart completely. I use this to record ideas and such, it´s just a very fun sampler/sequencer that sparks my creativity
I connected the booth output from the Twitch into the SP-555 wich allows for some funny stuff, without risking to mess it up totally, as the main outs goes straight to the N4.
And the case was an idea I got of someones Youtube video, it really is awesome. Made by a local carpenter and I installed the LEDs myself a little while ago.
As mentioned the N4s outputs go to a Yamaha mixer wich then goes to a small RCF PA and I use my old bands Wharfdale speakers as monitors. Headset is an AKG K271 Studio, totally love it.
And a little introduction of myself, perhaps?
Not pictured is my home studio. I began working with one of my countrys best audio techs when I was 16, so ever since then I have been a total gearslut, but I have always been working with music in some way. My father is also a musician, pro since he was about 14! Hammond C3 ftw. I have earlier worked on more experimental music and the band I was in was mainly prog. metal and heavy rock, I am a drummer btw. So EDM is something I only have been “doing” for about two years. I also play bass and synths, but drums is where it´s at.
If anyone wants some messy pics of the studio, just let me know.
This is my first DJ mixer, so I don´t know how qualified I am to answer that. But you do get a lot of features for a small price and it doesn´t feel like the old Behringer I used to know. I haven´t had time to get deep into it yet, but I´m sure it will do it´s job quite well.
The only issue I´ve had is that sometimes (or rather often, really) when I turn the unit on, all of the lights go on and nothing happens. Turn it off and on a couple of times and it works as it should. Had it for about two weeks, so I have emailed the store to check if they could take a look at it. Anyways, I don´t think you can go wrong with this one.
