To those of you who are unfamiliar with IRC, this is how it works.
a) some people “idle” in the channel all the time
b) occasionally someone new comes in, or one of the “idlers” “un-idles” and says something
c) chat ensues
If you :
a) come in, say “hey, is anyone here?”
b) don’t get an immediate answer
c) then leave
Then chat will never ensue!

And you’ve got ppl like me who just keep talking.. and mumble random stuff in the middle of a discussion

If you’re comparing irc and facebook you’ve clearly not properly used irc. Theres a reason it’s hardly changed in 20 years.
