Upping my clap game

Upping my clap game

So i think ive got the theory of kick drums down, my hats and rides sound good but i seem to be stuggling with claps. I have tried varoius techniques in a vain attempt to get this kind of sound

I love the way D-Unity gets this pumping rythym throughout his tracks and alot of his claps are really short and punchy. I have tried using clip fades, evelopes, Transient shapers and various layering and processing techniques but im starting to think im missing something simple, anyone have any pointers to get claps short and snappy?

sounds like a pitched up snare to me, could be wrong

It all comes down to sample selection

Sounds like a clap that would come in a techno/dub kit

Let me know if these help. Just tossed a few similar claps from the personal arsenal in a folder for ya.

Agreed. Think that’s a snare. You can always gate your clap, then throw it through a compressor compressing the hell out of it, or even a limiter to really blast it.

Thanks Kwal very generous of you and much appreciated, just about to sit down and have a playground with some of the suggestions here to see if it puts me any closer, will let you know how i get on

so after some dabbling and tweeking last night i found that gating the claps seems to do the trick for me, i have always overlooked this effect so its kinda a revelation for me thanks for the tips guys

Yeah I agree - sounds like more of a snare, with maybe a LP filter cutting off the highs a little
