Using Traktor X1 with Serato?

OK I’ve got an X1 (mk1) and have it hooked up to my system; it works fine in native mode on Traktor but there is no luck with the MIDI mode. When I try to use it in Serato it doesn’t work at all. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

PS if it matters to anyone I’m using Serato Scratch Live but also tried Serato DJ, both with an SL3 sound card attached to the computer (and the usual turntables and mixer of course).
