I use the vestax vci 100.
I would like to upgrade into a new version to be able to have more features and be able to control 4decks.
I had a quick glimpse in a music store but wasn’t able to test any because there were way toooo many and I didnt have enough time. I have heard of the new S4 but was not yet able to see it anywhere because it were sold out…
What would you suggest that were as stable as the vci 100? I saw the vci100 mkii but I wasnt too impressed because of its plasticity or am I mistaken?
well, youre not going to find much with more than 2 jogs.
map a spare or not really used button to ‘activate’ 4 deck mode where the pitch faders are volume faders and now the jogs and all the controls (at least vital ones) are working for decks C and D
really, all you need to do is duplicate all the controls in controller manager and change the deck it works for
Im using both hercules dj control mp3 e2 and m-audio oxygen 8v2 might upgrade my dj controller to a vci or another hercules.. but I’m not sure yet.. both works good though
yeah but lets not forget that i need a pro controller to be able to play with other djs. haveing a controller lacks to be able to coopertae with cd djs or vinyls becuase fo their small jogs which doesnt allow you to set the beat grid right. and it gets it very veyr difficult to beatgrid/pitch to the right tempo using mini jog wheels…
i have tried the djjtools 4decks mapping but wasnt toooo satisfied. lacks a few things.
so i guess vestax is probably the best solution?

If you want to stick with a controller, you’ve got a few options…
The MC6000, S4, and xone:dx are the most obvious…direct mixer controls for all 4 decks and layers for everything else. Add a Kontrol X1 or (up to 2) SC2000(s) to any one of them, and you have direct control over 4 decks. Based solely on feel, I think the A&H wins, but I haven’t actually tried to map one to Traktor, because I’m not spending that kind of money on an all-in-one.
Alternatively…a 4-channel mixer and a pair of X1s or SC2000s (or there are a couple others…reloop makes one, for example) probably gives the best control and most customization of the setup…but you have to get a more expensive audio interface to run the mixer…it kind of starts with an audio 8 dj, and I–for one–would want more outputs if I was going to go with something that complicated anyway.
I’d also suggest you hesitate and evaluate why you actually want 4 decks. I use 6 in Live, but it’s purely for organization…if I had the audio interface to support it, I could do all of the mixing on a 2-channel mixer with matrix inputs.
I’ve heard very few DJs who can use 4 decks effectively for any purpose other than organization and working ahead. Ritchie Hawtin and Jeff Mills are probably the best, and Mills was only using 3 when I was really impressed.
I use my Hercules Steel for decks 3/4 with jogs (modifier for EQs) and decks 1/2 are on DVS but all can be controlled with cues and skip that are mapped to my frankencontroller. MULTI-MIDI FTWWWWWW
but i like for example the idea of the s4 but i am not sure if its really the right controller… keeping in mind that i want to consider if anything happens to be ableto repair it and buy parts.. but s4 doesnot support selfrepairing.
Why i want 4 decks?
i want 4 decks becuase I ahve been playing with cue points, looping and samples for 3 years… way before all this digital stuff came out…
i work with a vestax vci100 and have an x1. I use vestax for two decks mainly and the x1 only to control effects and hotcues. But if I would like to have the feel of all decks. I usually play with deck a & b the tracks. I want to use deck c to play short loops or shout outs and I would love to have a deck d to simply play instumentals or a simple 128bpm beat.
recently i had a gig and i took two vestaxs with me and worked fine. but why take 2 vestax when i can take only one?
