what do you guys think of the new Vestax TR-1 that seems to be the perfect match for Traktor Pro?!
I’m not too happy with my VCI-100SE as I feel the handling is way too complicated with Traktor Pro (kudos to Ean though for putting up a splendid .tks).
It’s a link to Vestax’s German website but you probably get the picture. Availibility “August 2009”, no pricing yet.
It’s a pretty good idea, I had a closer look at the layout already some time ago and think it’s pretty functional. What I don’t like that as soon as you exceed two decks, you’re back to shift-key fiddling and hoping that soft-takeover takes away some of the ugliness of having different slider/knob settings on the shifted decks. I’m still waiting for a compact controller that really has 4 decks with dedicated line faders, fx, transport, loops and pitching, plus a global section somewhere. I’m currently doing external mixing to at least have some of that but I’d die for a controller that can do all that with internal mixing.
A little OT: A crossover between the TR-1 and “The Thing” posted in another thread would be a controllerist’s wet dream
The shipping date for this unit keeps getting pushed back and back. Last I saw, decks.co.uk has now said middle of september before they will have stock, and I won’t be suprised if that gets pushed back yet again.
Does anyone know if there is a distributor for the UK yet? Heard they had loads of problems with this and thats why there aint many Vestax products coming into the country.
Well it arrived yesterday along with the audio 4. Had a little play with it last night and must say I’m very impressed. All the controls are set out in a way to match everything onscreen nicely.
Just a bit miffed as to why my latency won’t go below 10ms or I get pops and crackles. I was running 2 denon 1200s with their built in soundcards and an external mixer and had a latency of 5.5ms. I haven’t done anything different apart from install the audio 4 and switch to traktors internal mixer. Anybody any ideas why this would be.
Pc spec is: quad core q6600 2.4. 4gig ram and running xp service pack 3
It’s brilliant But I think if you really want to go 4 deck way, the toggle switch and all the soft take over of parameters won’t do… only 2x TR-1 will really get ya the performance you want. the really cool thing about a controller like this is to hide on the software all the parameter you have on the hardware … so you have total info just by looking at it, like a standard mixer+decks .. I’m not a scratcher but the crossfader will be missed by some … One cool thing is the Longer Pitch Fader ..
I had a very quick run on the beast but I think it needs some teaks to add teh possibility of changing the pitch range (shift+ pitch bed + and - maybe)
I changed the panning into Gain ( shift button engages panning).
Thinking of adding a control to quickly ON/OFF deck filter.
Also I think it would be much cooler and practical to have seperate move / loop controls … a matter of using shift but I’m not a fan of modifiers and multiple controls on the same knob/ button..
