VDJscript definately sounds hawt.
It’s probably what Traktor lacks just 8 modifiers cough
When is it going to be released?
EDIT: eww..already out but no trial (yet)
Wait wait wait… only 8 modifiers is what traktor is lacking? You do realize that 8 modifiers, with double conditions logic and 8 conditions of each modifier, you can have more mappings with one button than most .tsi’s have total? I don’t understand why ONLY 8 modifiers is a bad thing. Me thinks you should use them more wisely if only having 8 is what makes you dislike Traktor.
+1 Phaidon. for most people thats more than enough mate . I would use 3 at the max, don’t like one button doing more than two things it just gets confusing imo. MORE KNOBS PLEASE!
yeah, seriously, when you do the math it gets astronomical
1 button works on two different conditionals. So, theoretically, a button can have
Every button can have more than 3000 different commands, depending on how in depth with modifiers you get
The more i need functions the more i am learning how to set these buttons etc up the way i like them. My friend is “inheriting” my old controller soon, i joked to him he has to pay more for all the hours i spent mapping the bloody thing haha ![]()
hehe yeah… I picked up modifiers quick, and really quickly realized that the preset and variable changes in Bomes make EVERYTHING better ![]()
As much as I loved VDJ this new version still sucks. Its missing the option for 4 decks. Super limited effects and the beatmatching engine is very weak, you cant modify the beatgrid at all. Cue jumping in VDJ isnt nearly as awesome as it is in TPro 3vs8 CP’s? The scripting language looks brutally painfully in VDJ. In TPro its all drop down menus, and like Advct said you can use bomes to even further enhance it. I love the look of VDJ, but I need more functionality from it to make it worth my time.
Never actually had much of a fiddle with it so thanks for the heads up animus… Still quite a popular prog tho. So only has 2 decks, limited midi and very few cue points? Man i need at least 4 for most tracks. Enough features for many i expect.
You may be right if you do your layout from scratch, but I just picked up ean’s where all 8 modifiers are already in use.
Now you say I can still use the different states of them, but I have to fully understand beforehand which modifier does what in Ean’s mapping.
If there were more modifiers there would be no need to care about that.
If you use more than one controller you easily reach the limit too.
Sorry for turning OT
It’s alright, HedgeHog, it’s not a total thread hijack ![]()
I’m in the same boat as Jester, though. To adequately cue up my tracks I need at least 4 and at most 6, and that’s usually just for phrasing cues so I can easily do those long blends I’m such a fan of ![]()
wrong. VDJ is 4-deck capable, its called multi-instance where 2 instances sync eachother and “talk” to eachother. As long as you have enough power even 6 or 8 decks are possible. The midi is far from beeing limited. Just do some research about the new way they map things. Cue points… they are defenitily not limited.
You can have a infinite number of cue´s.
Besides traktor vdj is the most powerfull dvs… and it has flawless videomixing too ![]()
The multi-instancing sucks. Its quite the uneccesary drain on your machine and creates higher latency than normal. You need a channel for each instance which is stupid if you only have one controller. I cant dedicate half of my controller to one channel. And VDJ creates pauses when you exit out of one program and go into the other. Multi Instancing isnt a feature its a gimmick. Yes the VideoMixing is fantastic, but Im not a VJ. And the midi is very very very very very limited. TPros midi mapping is superior by a longshot. And YES the cueing system is very limited. You cant snap cue, cant quantize your cue jumping. VDJ only natively allows you to cue juggle 3 points easily, while Tpro lets you do 8.
and again, trying not to hijack, but this kind of an issue is why we get resonance on filters instead of properly working read/write tagging from the Traktor Dev’s.
nearly 3000 functions for one button, that’s almost 400,000 completely different mappable functions with a VCI-100 and a keyboard. More controllers just make more possibilities. Traktor’s MIDI capability is not an issue.
Back to VDJ 6, I would need at least 8 jumpable cue points, since I’m pretty used to it now. I’m not worried about video capabilities either, so isn’t a selling point for me. Same as Dvls and Jester. If price is an issue, VDJ 6 would be better than Tpro to get started though.
Alright, now it’s drifting a little bit from the OT. Let’s not turn this into a VDJ vs Traktor thread.
VDJ is way better than Traktor.
runs*
fuuuuuu~
Everyone knows Mixxx is where its at, because coding your own controller mappings in xml is pro.
well to me the scripting support is a big selling point. the music group thing could be fun. not really sure what to make of the netsearch feature or the native HID support.
here is some more commentary:

In VDJ you can have infinite cue-points. i can easily set up to 20 cues if i wanted to. Its also possible to trigger the cues. Im not sure what quantizising means, but im sure its possible to. Answer me this, how many cues does tp have? Surely, you guys are more comfortable with the way traktor does things, but please do some research before you state something obvious wrong. I can also jump from one instance to another without dropouts etc.
Here´s whats new so far VirtualDJ - Features
here you can find few examples of what is possible, like giving a infinite number of controls for one single button/knob etc, something VDJ didnt have before but TP had. Surely the midi-implentment was better in Traktor… but know i feel its even. Wont start a war neither
we´re all just a bunch of hippies,right? ![]()
I think for a beginning dj traktor should be the better solution, vdj just needs a little more in-depth knowledge with all the .xml and .dll programming. Traktor is cheaper also i think, TP 199,-€ and VDJ 250,-€
peace
Looks like a toy, that’s enough for me to keep with Traktor.
