VirtualDJ Headphones ???

VirtualDJ Headphones ???

I am using VirtualDJ Pro 7.0 and I am running in Stereo mode thru the USB port on my Laptop into USB on my Board. I only use one deck for playing. Q: Is there anyway to use the other deck to cue for headphones. I know you can do it if you split the stereo signal into mono…but remember I am running in stereo…HELP PLEASE
Thx
Ken

ehhh, can you try and phrase that a bit differently? i dont really understand the logic behind what your trying to do, whats the use in only using 1 deck?

edit: yeah if you want to be able to use the headphones to cue and play ur music in stereo aswell then your gonna need another soundcard (with 2 stereo outs), its possible to use 2 soundcards together in vdj but i wouldnt recommend it.

virtual DJ / Headphones

Thats what I thought…anyone have any suggestions how I can cue with headphones ? btw this reply was to someone who had just wrote ‘No’ to my question…I really do thank you all for the replys …I need headphones to que.

A super cheap option would be to buy one of these

What does it do…?..I dont need to split the usb signal if thats what it is

You need a soundcard capable of producing two audio tracks (One main one out of the speakers, the other through headphones)

Im going to take a guess and say you are just using the one built into your computer.

You need to either buy a soundcard capable of producing two or purchase the card linked above and in the setup panel, assign the computer to play the main audio through your computers soundcard and the USB flash card to produce sound through the headphones.

This will allow you to play music through speakers, but listen to a track in the headphones, beatmatch it and then mix it into the main audio signal.

Ok got it Thank you for the reply’s…I will have my tech guy on this first of the week…Thanks Again

Check your preferences, I think there should be a way to use the USB output as main and the headphone jack on your laptop as cue.

@ DJ Nada That is exactly what I thought I could do but the preferences are not agreeing ..If this ends up being to much trouble I just might buy a 2nd laptop to use as cue & backup.

WHOOOOAAAAAwhoawhoawhoa hold up a second. What exactly is it that you’re doing? DJing? because I don’t understand why on earth you’d need another laptop for cueing.

You’ve presumably (hopefully) bought VDJ but you say you’re only using 1 deck? In that case couldn’t you just use iTunes?

Sorry if I’ve missed something here but I don’t get it.

Yes only using 1 deck I dont have my mad mix skills down yet so just using automix…But I use the usb out into usb on my board. So I get what you are saying about itunes as a player ‘but’ how would I get itunes to output out of headphone jack only…

ok. Let’s try & make this simple.

…as I understand it, all you’ve got going in to one channel of your mixer is the main output of virtual DJ.

What you need virtual DJ to be able to do, is generate two stereo outputs. One pair being the main output, & the other pair being the cue output.

To do this you need a soundcard that is capable of creating these two seperate pairs of outputs.

Reading your original post. It looks like your mixer has a USB input & soundcard built in to it, presumably this soundcard only creates one output (which you currently use as your main output from virtual DJ).

Your best solution is to ignore the soundcard built in to your mixer, as it’s never going to do what you want it to do. Instead, use an external soundcard capable of creating the two stereo pairs you need.

Currently, your best budget option seems to be N.I’s Traktor Audio 2 (as it’s now called these days!!)

http://nativeinstruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-audio-2/

This would also give you the option of running each pair as the output of an individual deck in virtual DJ, then doing your mixing on on your hardware Numark mixer (rather than VDJ’s main & cue outputs), which you may find works better for you.

I know this mindset, but trust me when I say you won’t get those mad skills as long as you are just using automix.

this. Automix will do you no favours and sounds no better than manually syncing the 2 tracks and playing with EQs a bit. That’s not mad DJ skillzorz, that’s basic basic stuff.

What are you referring to when you say ‘my board’?

Ok, Yeah the question is a bit unclear but I agree that Automix is not the best solution…I guess that would work if you need to use the restroom or stay away for a couple of minutes.

If you’re using a USB sound card that goes into the board and you still have the laptop heaphone output as another audio card you can easily make both decks work and cue. So in your settings make sure you choose 1)Monitor with headphones, 2) Two Audio cards, and 3) which audio card you want to use for cueing and which for the main output. ex. USB Card > Board - Internal Audio Driver > Headphones. If you have the demo version you won’t be able to chose more than one audio output.
Cheers

Edit
ok - here is the picture of how it’s supposed to look like…

I want to thank everyone for all the help & extra thanks for the set up ‘jpg’ shot…I am going to purchase the ‘NI’ Audio 2 Interface. That will fix the headphone cue problem. I am just getting started with the whole Laptop scene..and promise the ‘automix’ is just until I get on my game. I have another probably really dumb question, but I need to know, lol. My 1 ‘Numark’ mix board has an USB input, but I have seen many DJ’s not use an interface and just run out of the headphone jack into the mix board with RCA jacks. Q: What does the interface do for sound quality ? Thx

It makes it not suck.

An audio interface like the Audio2 is made to process audio from digital signals in a specific way. Soundcards, like onboard soundcards in your laptop, are not. It CAN sound fine from your onboard sound. But it can quickly become a complete shit show. I’ve seen it happen a number of times.

Ok I dont want it to Suck, lol so I just ordered the ‘N.I.’ Audio Interface 2…I paid a little more and got the Tractor DJ software also…I have been using VirtDJ but figured I might as well check this one out. Thx

Whatever works, dude. Good luck to ya.
