I know there are tons of post about Windows Vista and all of its downfalls. Numerous people with new PC pre-installed with Vista, that are just pulling out there hair.
I must say I am surprisingly not one of them. And I’m not quite sure. . So I am going to let everyone out there know it is possible.
I just got my new PC Monday. Dell Inspiron 1525. I upgrade the standard specs to:
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
4GB RAM
The HDD is still a 5400 RPM, not the best but good.
First I hated, hated, hated vista. Traktor was crashing left and right. I use:
Traktor 3.3
M-Audio Xponent
M-Audio Conectiv
I upgraded to SP2, killed a few processes that I wasn’t using for DJing. And 2 nights in a row I stress tested the system. Two 6-hour session. Not one problem.
Am I just lucky? I just feel amazed that it worked with very little effort. I figured I’d try to run Vista and if it didn’t work out I would just install XP. No need, saved my self a lot of time.
I think it’s all in how you use your shit. Ok? I mean, if you’re gonna fucking download porn and grab warez and shit it doesn’t matter what system you use, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
<sorry still peeved from our friend in the other thread who thinks M$ is the best thing since the invention of the wheel>
my desktop only had 1 problem running a pretty old game (i think it’s because my vista is 64bit) but absolutely no problems with anything else.
but it really needs more than 2gig for a decent experience.
I was a happy camper with xp for the longest, I never had the chance to get my hands on a clean copy of vista, but I would tell anyone using any type of MS OS to get a OEM copy to avoid all the extra software addon by Dell/Sony/HP/Etc.
Once you get the sucker running good with all the drivers & tweaks…make clone of the HD to an ext HD and make 2 partitions C: for OS D: Media (music/data) and make an copy of the HD atleast once a month & weekly update of the Media, being that we come up on alot of music. So in the future if you HD takes a crap on you or your system is acting up, you can always use the last good copy of the HD.
+1 vista x64. Runs better than my XP install ever did…but I have dual and quad core machines, and vista has like a bagillion times better multi-core support.
If you’ve got a single core machine (what is this 1999?) use XP, if you’ve got dual core, you really can’t go wrong with vista!
Ok, so I am not alone. I have just seen tons of people bitching about vista. It made me scared for when I got my new PC. A whole lot of sweating for nothing.
Ive been using Vista for about 2 years now, it runs fine now, but in the days before sp1 it did BSOD several times, which happened to me once in 4 years of using XP.
But now sweet as, though pro has all ways had issues on vista for me, should install that update…
