ok, so not something to shout about, lol, and it was on my net show. but yeah, now i’ve seen it. only had software stutters up until a few months ago when i went tweak happy, and now full on fuck over.
BUT this was pure heat related, once i’d stopped everything i opened up realtemp and the cpu temp was reading over 90c, almost hot enough to make a cuppa but i have no scones
gonna either invest in a better under laptop fan/stand thing, or a liquid cooling system - because it sounds more awesome and fun to install.
I wouldn’t recommend a bigger internal fan, the airflow is cruddy enough in a lappy, trying to force more air can actually worsen the flow and make things hotter. You should look at a cooling stand (one tries to pull air away from the stand, not force it at the computer).
I would recommend using a vacuum cleaner on it to get excess dust bunnies out and then also check your thermal paste between your CPU and heatsink. Traktor uses minimal resources so it should not get that hot. Unless you had tons of other shit running. Think of defraging too.
that’s what i meant, my one at the mo has 2 little 2 inch diameter fans on it, have had so it blows into the laptop. gonna try flipping it over and see if that helps - so it pulls hot from it
in which case, i’m not interested
@ sarasin - that means i got to find out where the wife keeps the vacuum cleaner…
Oooooooohhhh, don’t go there mate! She hears “where’s the hoover?” and all kinds of expectations are going to be attached to it (the voice of experience talking!). Just go look for it when she’s out.
I actually had my first audio glitches today (on a Mac)…I think I’m finally trying to do to much with Ableton Live…something about that last synth patch caused my CPU usage to spike when I played a note.
I’ll look into it, but I’m thinking the problem is that I’m running latency with Ableton that rivals SSL.
