Hi i am doing a HUGE new years eve dance party, I would like to know if there is a possible way to make a wall of lights like you see the music videos.
I know that it is basically light bulbs and a frame, I was thinking using metal box frame, one light bulb for each cross section.
the frame will be 10 - 30 light bulbs down and 3 across. there will be 3 sections.
That means total around 30 - 90 lights per section.
Then I have it connected to a chaser box that is sound activated.
Yeah I’m working on something right now that is 6foot by 4foot and I am using over 300 leds (this is bright). I have a transformer that turns my power to 12v and 200w.
I think normal incandescent bulbs will produce a lot of heat. I mean a lot.
You’re probably getter off going with LEDs than incandescent bulbs. Besides the heat, you can do a LOT more with the LEDs that will make it look really sweet
Yeah, if money is no issue, get the LED Par cans. They are already DMX so you just need a good DMX controller and creativity. Did you want to spell words out on the grid of lights?
that’s friggin sweet. making like 10 of these each for different frequencies..and about 15 ft high.. that would be epic to have behind you during a set.
You can set LED tubes to do the VU Meter function, I think Space in Ibiza has a VU Meter wall behind the booth, along with a slew of awesome lighting but my personal favorite is their fog cannon, that thing is sick.
Anyway, check out Chauvet Lighting for the less costly LED Tubes along with other lighting gear.
I have some of their Tubes and LED panels as well they work great. I control them with an american DJ DMX Controller.
Here’s a (really bad) picture (but it gets the point accross) of a set up I used recently with their lighting, the LED tubes are accross the top and they are turned off at this point but you can see the other products are really bright and it’s the same technology on the tubes.
From the original post it sounds like you mostly want these for the new years party. If you are not going to be using this much production on a regular basis then it is probably better to rent it. Most major cities have shops that provide concert lighting. You could probably rent the lighting and have a pro set it up and run it cheaper that you could build something home brew that would probably break down after a few gigs.
buy when you have the market to sell high production shows often enough that you get a return on your investment.
