wanna be dope?

wanna be dope?

hello,
i have been djing/beatmaking for a long time.to all the new artists jus starting, use less effects and just shine with just a few.you dont need 20-million stutters/echos/flangers all at once.less is more.dj shadow, cut chemist babu are examples of this.study this technique and use effects like spices.trust me,the crowd will enjoy your show, the promoter will re-book you,and the other dj’s in the crowd will notice you have skills.
just some advice…follow if you want, but i havent had a non dj job in 21 years.

I think you been smoking the dope my friend

lol, nah,i jus hate hearing all this crazy sneakers in the drier type stuff.im jus old i guess.imma rob swift,d-styles type listener.but,to each his own…ha’

lol, was only joking..

I agree - too much fx sounds awful.
“Use the effects like spices” - I like that

So use lots of them when playing Indian music?

scnr

I don’t bother to hear Dj’s using effects more than ordinary, ofc as long as it make sense and suits to music style they are kicking.

lol, word.i heard some of your music on souncloud.great work man.it totally shows that you have been moving dance floors for a long time.
some kats can actually use many many effects and sound great.but that is a skill born of mad practice and experience.when i first started making beats,we didnt have a trillion effects,so we worked with what we had.nowadays,in my opinion, there are just too many.
the indian food comment was super funny…extra curry lfo and cummin beat-slicer..lol.
but in all seriousness,im glad you understood my point.keep rocking, you are a natural.

lol you don’t mean these guys do you?

Awesome breakbeats by them  Massive fan here. Biggaps the S&D boyz.

I like using alot of effects in my tracks, I like the more droning, trippy, head space, atmospheric, enticing beats that make you think and question the sounds. Is that wrong? Should I minimize the amount of effects I use in my tracks and just make the straight same ole same ole?

Let me know!

not at all.sneaker and the dryer are great and fun to watch live.i lived in japan for a year and saw some truly crazy MPC battles that were truly some next level shit.what i mean, and this is just my opinion,is that drums, atmospheric sounds, scrapes, effects, etc, should be used complimenting one another.not jus a gater and beat slicer and other strange stuff for the sake of ‘im so dope, people jus dont get me’..lol.
miles davis, monk and donald byrd were shunned at first cuz it was too new,but when people finally tried to play it,they understood the genius.taste comes down to nostalgia.i love trip-hop,like massive attack,as well as phillip glass and tim burton.what im trying to say is that the new kids should study timing, build ups, silence and all the aspects of sound instead of hitting every knob and it sounding like a sonic mess.i like a groove, and even a crazy bounce of effects can create a groove.those that know understand what i mean.you feel it in your god-self.it stimulates the intuitive quality of the ancestral mind.its hard to explain.im jus glad we have great forums such as these to discus or ideas.props to all who love making sound.

Are you ok

um…what?

“use effects like spices”

is this a technical term? if so, what does this mean?

use sparingly

It’s a guy who’s calling other people pathetic with no reason…

dj calkutta - some REALLY good points you’ve made in this thread.

I hope you stick around here at DJTT - we need guys like you with experience and knowledge. Welcome.

Actually it’s a cookery term..

Actually it’s a similie.. Or is it an analogy…?

Yep analogy I think.

thanks man,i love coming here to learn new things about all this new technology.im getting old and need to keep up with the world.lol..
thanks for the kind words man.im always down for collabs if you or anyone enjoys making ghost artist music…meaning, the artist only exists when the 2 other artist collaborate…its a studio term…lol…thanks again yo’.
