Weird s4/pro2 problem

Weird s4/pro2 problem

Past couple of times I’ve used my s4 I’ve had to change the tempo clock to master as if it’s set to auto my tracks will randomly slow down to like 112bpm or something else absurdly low. Anyone else experienced this and is it something completely simple that I’m missing?

Cheers

Sounds pretty strange and it is hard to make a suggestion to help with this description.

Can you describe what is happening in a bit more detail? Explain like if you wanted that we reproduce the same thing on our S4s.

I think that’s part of the problem. I wouldn’t know fully how to recreate what happens. Basically I’ll set the master clock to auto so that the master deck changes with each new track. Then randomly part way through a track the tempo will suddenly jump down to say 112bpm. Tempo clock still set to auto. Track then remains at that slower tempo unless I manually change it. From memory this isn’t isolated to one specific deck either. Happens on A and B. Only way to resolve is to set tempo clock to master and play at a fixed tempo throughout the set.

That’s odd, never heard of it. Using auto as well

yeah i cant get my head round it. ive not really had time to explore the issue fully as its been mid-party so im gonna have a good mess around with it tomorrow daytime and see whats going on. i neeed to tidy up my laptop as well so gonna give it a fresh install and see how i get on. strange that no-one else has experienced this.
To be fair its not a huge problem as all of the music i play is generally at a set tempo anyway but its an issue that shouldnt be happening!

Did you file a support ticket?

No not yet. Don’t wanna hassle them with something unless I’m sure it’s not user error.

Is the beat grid of the track it happens in “steady”.

scamo

It definitely happens to beat gridded tracks. and they are all locked if thats what you mean?

I had the same thing during a set a few weeks back. We were punching in around 126 or 128bpm and all of a sudden I was back to 122?

Really didn’t understand what was going on. We just upped it to 126 and went on from there.

and you never figured out why it happened? hmmmm the plot thickens!!

Nope, it’s just this one occasion that I can think of when it happened.
Only thing I can think of, is the current version of TP2 I’m running, as I haven’t had that happen to me with the older versions.

Weird. Happened again this morning. Had a 10 minute fiddle and within the first minute and a half it jumped from 127 to 125.13!! My OCD hates unrounded bpm’s!! Def gonna give it a fresh install.

Ok so I uninstalled Traktor, downloaded the pro2 demo and activated with my product key. Less than 30 seconds into my first track and the bpm drops MASSIVELY!! 127 down to 112.

Trying to get my head around whether this is software or hardware driven. Could this potential be caused by the s4 or would you say it’s a Traktor problem? Either way I’ve logged a ticket with NI support. It’s totally knocked my confidence in my gear. I just don’t trust it!!

I’ve had a similar thing happen but when I reset my traktor via the wizard setup it seemed to go back to normal

Did you completely uninstall?

Do you have any other midi devices hooked up and are any of them set to ALL PORTS for the Out-Port? I was doing some stuff with the midifighter the other night and was noticing some very odd behavior. My MF Out-port was set to all ports. When I changed that back to MF the behavior stopped… Other than that, has your mapping for the S4 gotten fudged up somehow? I am probably totally off the mark but it will only take a few seconds to check.

It’s funny you say that cos I’ve recently started using my midi-fighter again. Plus even though I’ve gone through a fresh install I’m still using the same mapping so i’ll import a fresh s4 default mapping without my midi-fighter and see how that works out. Never occurred to me that it may be a mapping issue so thanks for that.

ok i deleted all mappings and imported thee default s4 mapping. All went well for half an hour then same thing happened again. Also recalibrated the faders but no joy.

Ive realised now that it only actually happens on deck B. another thing ive noticed is that when i load Traktor with the S4 connected the tempo fader on deck B shows as being all the way to the top of the range like this:

even though the fader on the S4 is in the centre position. However when i start Traktor without the S4 connected the fader in the software remains in the centre position.

This must mean its a hardware problem surely?!
