What are you using for recording?

my digital recorder has died and I’m wondering if I should look into another tabletop multitrack or try the software side. Any recommendations?

Definitlt try out the software side. It’s a lot more flexible than a multitrack recorder and,in my opinion, easier to work with. Reaper is a great little program that only costs 40 bucks, nut you can use the uncrippled demo version for as long as you want. It will get you used to producing with software.

If you use software you’ll need plugins. These are all the effects you’ll use within Reaper itself, from compression to eq to reverb, and synthesizers/samplers too. KVR Audio has information on all kinds of different plugins. If you search their database for “free” you’ll find all kinds of good stuff. I tend to use mostly free plugins anyways, as the ar usually very good at doing the one thing they are meant to do, if that makes sense.

Good luck!
If you need help with anything let me know. The main reason I’m not on this board much is that I’ve been recording a number of different projects and I love to help anyone get into recording.

dont know if this will apply to you but

i been using their recorder for years

Get Audacity, it’s free easy to use with a slight learning curve and it’s F-R-E-E.

thanks guys!

I’m amazed anyone still uses outboard multitrack recorders. I could see a vintage tape deal but it seems pcs have pretty much killed the digital variety.

I use a TASCAM DR-60D when recordinng into my DSLR, why would I want to use my pc maybe for post.

I use (was using) a Korg D1200 for recording to avoid staring at a screen. Debating if I should switch to software…
