What direction to go?

Ok so I am very new into the production side of techno music, I have logic 9 and have been messing around with it for a bit. Now I have my Traktor s5 to dj with and really have enjoyed the feel of it. I see you can produce with their maschine. My question is should I upgrade my logic 9 to X and get a midi controller or just save my money and then start to produce with Maschine. I like the way the work flow seems on the Maschine and want to try it. I know I could also use it with logic, but was going to avoid that. Any thoughts?

I think Maschine is great for starting tracks and getting them roughly into shape, but for that final arrange, mix, and polish a lot of times it can be a bit clunky compared to using a DAW. For me personally I wouldn’t get Maschine expecting to finish complete tracks on it, but as a way to kick start ideas to port over to Logic later, it’s great for that sort of thing.

I agree, I see maschine as more of a idea pad to get the creative juices flown. Also in my opinion the sound quality in a lot of NI products is rather lacking.
